Pros
Great for a community style store
Good employees
Cons
Low volume
No upward movement
Stores owed by families that make bad business decisions
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the rest of your family out of the business
Pros
Much satisfaction from working with independent business people that come to the organization from diverse backgrouds. Compensation and benefits are competitive to similar organizations.
Cons
Frequent changes in corporate strategy and direction from top management every few years.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work.
Pros
1. Very Flexible Hours
2. Easy going, friendly atmosphere
3. Low stress levels
4. Not too much is expected of you that would stray from your job description
Cons
1. Below average pay for the amount of work you are expected to do.
2. Raises are never anything worth it.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work.
Pros
most ace hardware stores are locally owned an operated, so all of your managers know your name. if you do a lot of home improvement you will enjoy the discounts.
Cons
the job is based on customer service. the ability to communicate with the customer is a must. our largest customer is the baby boomers so if you are a twenty something be prepared to have your youth viewed as a lack of experience in home repairs.
Advice to Senior Management
the brown bag sale is a hit. fifty percent off any item less than 30 dollars is a huge loss was severely abused to the point where customers would reenter the stores to get merchandise. we lost a lot of money with that sale.
Pros
Other employees were always good. Most of the management was good to work with.
Cons
Ability to move up in the company
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees more
Pros
Great knowledge at all levels, great communication, great opportunity to make a difference for the corporation and for the retailers, take very good care of employees with competitive salaries, benefits package, and work/life balance.
Cons
Some initiatives can hit a road block due to co-op nature of the business, but that is also a pro because the retailers demand the best.
Advice to Senior Management
None, I felt that management was great, shared timely information, and led with an aggressive, forward thinking agenda in conjunction with the board.
Pros
good people that are fun to work with. you learn alot about products and Do it yourself type of products. management gives days off when needed
Cons
management sucks. they talk about all the employees behind their back. they promise a review every 6 months for a 50 cent raise but that never happens.
Advice to Senior Management
give feed back when employees do a good job. give raises to employees who deserve it. dont play favorites. give "full time" employees full time hours
Pros
good schedule, learned a lot about harware business
Cons
No professional gown at all.
Advice to Senior Management
keep everybody well informed specially management, focus on incentives to motivates employees,
Pros
fun if you like to help people, but other than that its about all you'll do. tedious and boring work.
Cons
management doesn't care about anything other than getting customers in. Prices are too high and customers always complain. nothing anyone can do about it.
Advice to Senior Management
lower prices.
Pros
Great customers, Fun atmosphere, good employee discount.
Cons
Double standards for men and women, over worked
Advice to Senior Management
treat your employee's fairly. All should have to follow your rules, not just a select few.
