I worked at Ace Hardware part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The work was fairly straight forward, and they trained me on many things like key making, paint, roller blind cutting, money handling, grill assembly. They really let me take on major projects of my own choice which I enjoyed, like reorganizing entire Isles.

    Cons

Although some training was provided, for such a large business I would have expected more structure to the training process, rather than being called over in front of customers to learn. Additionally they have a very manual inventory management. No decent advancement

    Advice to Management

streamline the business side of things, make it easier to manage the inventory, then tackle Asset Protection. Too often have I seen business follow the more cameras more better when having inventory issues, but really its just about training employees to be aware and having a proper way to track and see trends with product.

I worked at Ace Hardware (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great people customers and employees

    Cons

Stores disconnected from Ace corporate office. Right does not know what the left hand is doing. Planograms in stores do not fit the allocated space. Discontinued items have no mark down process and store have way to much non-productive inventory in them.

    Advice to Management

Listen people in store do know what is happening in the stores. They understand the customer needs and demands. Look at store size before overloading with product. Use a better forecasting model to determine actual not just guess.

I worked at Ace Hardware part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of the best years of my life were spent working in the hardware store. I learned a lot about customer service and general handyman stuff.

    Cons

My store did not have a working computer in it. Everything needed to be priced by hand with stickers. That was a huge pain. No computer also meant to way to track inventory. There was a lot of wasted time digging around through boxes in the back to see if there were any more lightbulbs.

    Advice to Management

Please buy a computer for your store. It would be really helpful and you might be able to track your inventory better.
