    I worked at Ace Hardware

    Pros

    Good starting job.
Good variety of tasks (you're not doing the same thing all the time).
Learn how to help customers/customer service.

    Cons

Can be boring, especially in the winter time.
Customers occasionally have a high expectation of hardware knowledge unlikely to have been obtained by a high school student.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider higher pay for "sales associates" and the hardest workers.
Have multiple people involved in the hiring process for part-time workers.

I worked at Ace Hardware part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Lots of great customers, friendly, nice community store. They sold a lot of different items so that it had a variety to interest all sorts of people, not just hardware.

    Cons

It closed down and many people lost their jobs. When the postal unit opened back up at a different store, it was not as well run, not as friendly and open.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Well, at this point there is really nothing that can be said to the Management at Ace Hardware in Statesville because it is not longer there, there is a clothing store in that building now.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

I worked at Ace Hardware full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Satisfaction after helping a customer with a difficult problem
Special Ordering and Vendor orders give a sense of job satisfaction and responsibility
Small group of employees creates a sense of family
    Decent employee discount

    Cons

Tension can get high during high volume sales season (Spring and Summer)
    Winter is painfully slow.
No real ability to advance within the company short of opening your own store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus harder on treating team member concerns with respect
Actively help employees when they run into problems they can't solve alone.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Ace Hardware part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I've met a lot of locals that are very dedicated to small business. I work with people that like to work hard. There is always something to do. We get to wear jeans and casual shirts to work. Not really strict on sell, sell, sell. Flexible and considerate of family needs when it comes to setting the schedule.

    Cons

If you have any inkling of knowledge or hard-work ethic you will be used and abused. Basically if you're inept you can get away with doing the minimum, but if you prove you are above average they will use that to their advantage like a door mat. Used up to the 39.5 hours per pay period to avoid being paid as a full-time employee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't overuse your valued employees or they will leave.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
