I have been working at Actavis full-time

    Pros

Good comps to work. Salaries are competitive and good benefits. Good opportunities to advance if you are in the east cost due to aggressive acquisitions and market expansion.

    Cons

Due to several mergers and acquisitions the company has grown at a fast pace. Creating synergies which will result in layoffs. Hard ton tell if you will be part of those synergies or not and hard to tell the future is of the company if you are an employee but good news if you are a share holder.

    Advice to Management

Great people to work with, management and HR are great. Hope you can maintain a great feel for the workforce as the company transitions into one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies out there.

    Pros

Dedicated team of people at the manufacturing site. Opportunity to wear a lot of different hats. Many challenges and interesting projects to undertake.

    Cons

Too many mergers and acquisitions. Company has gotten too big and bureaucratic. Corporate leadership is severely lacking. Too many corporate initiatives are being pushed down that are a distraction to real value generation at the manufacturing sites.

    Advice to Management

Corporate management needs to understand that they exist to serve the manufacturing sites, not the other way around.

I worked at Actavis as a contractor

    Pros

Nice laid back environment, nice people to work with. Nice competent people with lot of knowledge in the area they are working.

    Cons

There is a huge disconnect between departments. Information sharing is difficult as different departments are maintaining their own data sets. Lot of mergers and acquisitions caused job insecurity.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes it's good to make a visit to all departments maybe just to say hello to employees. Some of these employees have never seen the leadership for months.

    Pros

Lots of new stuff pouring in. New opportunities to learn for those who are favorite of biased seniors

    Cons

Very insecure senior management. IT directors trying to keep systems analyst in low profile.

    Advice to Management

Please review if that many management layers are needed

  8. Actavis Global Brands R&D

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Supervisor, colleagues, and subordinates within Actavis Global Brands R&D in Salt Lake City were a highly effective, efficient, cohesive drug development organization with a long history of working together, high level of accomplishment in terms of successful drug development programs (approved NDAs and ANDAs) for a relatively small group.

    Cons

M&A activities at the corporate level were not followed through with very effective integration programs (at least in brand R&D); external consultants who lacked insight into the company were hired to drive the integration, resulting in a political free-for-all that disregarded accomplishments and competencies, and rewarded the loudest, most strident voices rather than the most effective organizations.

    Advice to Management

During the integration exercise following your next acquisition, consider the effectiveness of particular organizations to be integrated, e.g. global brands R&D and its departments, in terms of number of products under development compared to headcount, number of NDA filings compared to headcount, and number of NDA approvals compared to headcount. A larger, top-heavy organization is not necessarily better than a lean one.

Current Employee - Vice President, NJ in Cliffside Park, NJ

I have been working at Actavis full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good middle level management and line employees generally know what they are supposed to do. Company has good history, prior to transformative M&A activity

    Cons

Not clear that current management is in for long-haul and values historic employees. Communication could be improved to what it was with the legacy companies.
