    Pros

Interesting work and great people. First line manager is very supportive.

    Cons

Company operates on a shoestring. There is a constant cry of no money, so you will be asked to perform tasks not usually associated with your role, and you will not be paid your full negotiated rate (no one achieves 100% of bonus or commission).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The CEO should act like a CEO and not micro-manage product marketing, sales, etc.

    Pros

Good for people who know the management personally.
Low cost development center for US counterpart.

    Cons

Lack of growth .Only people close to the management are considered talented/given growth
Others will have to work under their dictatorship without any career advancement
Leaves are only on paper .You rarely get to use them .
    Compensation is less .
High school type system is followed without any chance for creativity.
Some senior management people behave as if they are founder members and dont have to work.
Senior Management is not capable of making any technical /magemennt decisions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Reward the performers .

    Pros

There is nothing positive to say about this company. Bad management, bad products, and bad people all around. If you are smart I would steer clear away from this company. You will be out of a job soon, when this company folds

    Cons

Too many to name, but this company is running out of money. They have products that don't work and the environment is terrible. If you are desperate and need a job, and this company is your only hope, then I would say work there, but if you have other choices, run from this place as fast as you can.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a clue. They have no leadership and everyone is quitting.

Services Company in Product Company's disguise

I have been working at Actiance full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

0-5 years experience - Decent learning. Good pay.

5-8 years experience - Learning Opportunities for smart people. Decent Pay.

9-10 experience - Zero learning's. Most of the current folks in that range are struck in the company either because they don't have the necessary skills to go out or due to some personal commitments.

10+(manger and higher) - You have to be an Yes man to US people. Manage tasks according to higher management wishes.

Be extremely careful if you are in the 10+ bracket. They promise a lot while hiring, but not even 5% of that is done in reality. This is the precise reason why around 6-10 people in that bracket have left in the past 10 months alone.

    Additional benefits:
    1. No car parking.(Only 7-8 slots available, which are reserved for oldies of the company). So expect to spend on an average of around 4-5k per month on car repairs(scratches, dents, tree falls etc.)

    2. Unmatchable/Unbelievable infrastructure :D

    2. Restrooms are pathetic to say the least. Even railway and bus stations in remote villages will have better provisions.

Don't get fooled by the positive reviews you have seen. You can easily make out who has written the review. Did you ever see a product company's review boosting about providing Lunch once a month as perks? :D

Bottom Line: A company for people(less than 9 years exp) who want to do some time pass.
A company for people (more than 9+ exp) who are not deemed good enough by other product companies or who don't care about there career and like to be bossed around by US folks.

    Cons

Everything is mentioned in Pros sections. If you are smart enough you would not be seeing this section ;). You would have already gained a perspective on the company based on previous reviews and by gauging why a 12+ years company is still in start-up mode :D

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work of ignoring employees feedback ;)

    Pros

    1. Wednesday lunch/snacks.
    2. Take most of our CTC to your home.
    3. Freedom to work in your style.

    Cons

    1. Worst work life balance
    2. stayed for more than 4 years and learned new things only in first month of joining after that nothing new.
    3. No implementation of new technologies in products.
    4. Product company behaving like a service based company.
    5. No vast perspective for future of company.
    6. Take money from customers and build features for them in core product which reduced the product quality to 85%.
    7. More than 15 years of establishment but no revenue disclosure and ground breaking thinking to doing something great.
    7. No feeling that you are working for a product based company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This company has potential to grow like other billion dollar companies but no better approach and just collecting bunch of money made it worst for all highly talented people in company.

    Pros

Anybody who had left their jobs previously and took several months'/years' career break can surely get a job there cause otherwise anyone sane would not consider joining them.

Most of your seniors are not going to know much about JDK or how to design applications anyway, so it is better if you also know little. You won't be disappointed and you might even get awards.

You would get to see the worst coding and design practices that you gave up on 12 years back. Yet they claim the work is good ( they only manage the junk they ship so it appears good to their eyes ). For the developers that don't care about how they implement things, and how little they have learnt, it's a good place of work. But there is a lot of such work that you've got to do. So there is a lot of work. A lot of bad work. You are basically doing that crap work 24 * 7. But isn't that what a product company should be like.

Anything regardless of its complexity is required within a few hours or by the next day. You can't really blame their developers. The managers know that this is how things are. And they want it to work this way.

You get free tea and chips. That's all what a product company should have to offer after all.

Twice in a month you will not have to carry your box ( you have to carry it otherwise cause they don't have vendors selling lunch or snacks. You don't have tea or coffee bags either. ) cause you get free lunch twice in a month. Now that's an awesome thing. Who cares about you having to carry 11 AM food, lunch, 3 PM food, 5 PM food.

You will start admiring the public toilets that you have so far only loathed. They have the worst of what you have ever used or been to.

All their chairs are faulty. So be prepared to get a back pain or a body pain in a few days of joining.

Should you get a viral fever or flu, expect to get it repeatedly cause employees with horrible health condition also do not get sick leaves easily - their old employees are exempt from this regulation. They can take an off whenever they want for any number of days. So if you are not 3-4 years old in the company, you won't get leaves easily and your recovery will be extremely slow. So you will literally be consuming steroids and antibiotics to make it to work. Stress + poor health should be your gifts.

Parking is only for selected favorite employees.

The management has short sighted vision and their approach to any kind of problems is temporary and harmful quick fixes.

They like to claim that they pay well. Probably they like to compare themselves with Indian services companies that pay only slightly less than them. Any product company, any... that is, pays better than them.

    Cons

Refer to pros section. Mentioned everything there.

    I worked at Actiance

    Pros

Small company, hence there are no laid down procedures for everything, hence things can move faster at times, as people are reachable immediately.
Good work on latest technologies, but hugely lacking of core competencies for tech stack. Archaic ways of approaching a problem.
At par pay scale with similar scale, even better for the right people.
Management still lives in pre-independence era and and have no idea how a 2014 company should work like, so people joining from big brands of product companies would be slightly disappointed to see a service company set-up and thought culture.

    Cons

    Engineering and management:

The company suffers from the Infosyndrome ( Infosys Syndrome), old timers seating on top spots and really screwing the everything that can be. Incorrect decisions coupled with inordinate delays have made the products a poor performers in the highly competitive and dynamic market space that they are destined for, thus the company is struggling to make ends meet.

Lack of core competency for each tech stack, one person being asked to do DBA job along with programming sometimes which results in neither being perfectly done.

If you have a recommendation to improve product quality, no one listen hence one ends up in thinking "why should I care": Lot of emphasis is given on resource costing which results in poor technology decisions and finally neither is achieved when the super fragile product is shipped several months later from the planned date. Customers end up finally reporting the several issues, which is when it is taken seriously.

    Now the company:
If you find a nicey review about the company, probably the management has posted that as a counter post to the decreasing popularity and credibility.
The company infrastructure and facilities in Bangalore is no where close to any product company of any scale anywhere in the world. There is no operational management here, so expect a sleeper railway compartment like experience when traveling on Indian Railways. A broken tap or toilet seat or a chair may take months or a full financial year to get repaired. Hence the office and toilets are perfumed several times a day.
After a lead level(IC role), there is no scope for career growth. Hence forget promotion if joining at a lead level, the managers are going no where.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No advice as I believe by this time the management is experience enough to know why things are kept the way they are, and they may have a specific agenda in deliberately not having those improved. Best of luck to the company
