I have been working at Activision Publishing full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

So many opportunities to explore many different parts of the company. I have been exposed to many aspects of this business and truly appreciate the opportunities.

    Cons

There is a lot of work to do and sometimes resources are stretched. It can take longer to complete business projects than anticipated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep working your butt off for this amazing company. No lie - I'm grateful you all push so hard for Activision.

    Pros

T-Shirt and Jeans is okay for work. Plenty of training opportunities. Benefits are alright as well.

    Cons

There's too much work at times. Promotions are not likely for people with niche fields of work.

I worked at Activision Publishing as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

I was able to test various games, which I loved. The staff was amazing, the games are fun, and competition is high! It was an opportunity to master the games before it is released to the public. I was able to learn a new system while working there and meet other interesting people.

    Cons

The down-side to all the fun is a lower rate of pay. The job is typically only contract. So you can't stay there for a long time.

    Pros

Great chance to learn. Fun, young work environment. Good people to work with.

    Cons

Not much career growth, unless you're in programming. For studio finance, it's one of those jobs that you'll have for a long time.

I worked at Activision Publishing as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Activision Publishing offers something for everyone. It has a very vibrant community and everyone is willing to help. There are beers going around the office and they host a get together one friday a month with drinks, music, and food.

    Cons

Orientation is poorly thought out. When going into such a big company, orientation should be a big focus so you know the company you're working for. There is also sometimes a lack of communication within departments.

    Pros

Smart, talented people. Primary focus of the company is to make video games. Room for advancement for those who can make the cut.

    Cons

Independent studio model has pros and cons. Poor performing studios can survive longer because of it - high performing studios sometimes don't get the recognition they deserve.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in more new IP, more new studio talent, facilities for your employees, less money on lavish parties or big name hollywood talent

Former Employee - Quality Assurance Tester in Santa Monica, CA

    I worked at Activision Publishing

    Pros

Activision is a friendly are relaxed place to work. There is a really lenient dress code and people are free to express themselves as they choose. Activision will either cover parking pass or a bus pass for one to get to and from work. Working overtime occurs commonly as a QA Tester, which can either be seen as a pro or con depending on how you look at it. Wages goes to $15 during overtime and they will cover a meal for the day which was always nice.

    Cons

Activision often produces games to make money rather than put quality in them. Lots of the action based games are repetitive and are no fun to test.
As a tester, the working conditions aren't the most pleasant. Working in the downstairs basement, or "the dungeon" is dark and has a odd odor to it. The break room does have a pool table and free soda, but no snacks or food are provided.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provided a clear scale of how you rate testers and give them perks for finding critical bugs in beta and submission stages.
