    Pros

The company has a culture of support and encouraging growth. There is very little drama and most people appreciate a solid work/life balance. There are times when projects call for overtime hours, but those seem to be more the exception than the rule. Most Project Managers understand when you have put in extra hours, and in turn offer flexibility in time off. The employee handbook outlines the expectations and company policies, so they are very clear, not a lot of room for negotiation, but they are fair.

Company doesn't officially allow working from home on a regular basis, but there are some employees based in areas where we do not have an office, and they are permitted to work remotely. For employees based in an office, the ability to work remote depends on the project manager and the project/client.

Good benefits including solid healthcare options, pet insurance, and paid maternity leave. Better than average vacation allowance. Promotion path and expectations are clear. Bonus calculation is very transparent and fair.

    Overall, I'd recommend working here.

    Cons

With any consulting job, sometimes the commute is good and sometimes it is not. This entirely depends on the project you get staffed on, but the staffing team makes every effort to accommodate employees when possible.

Utilization is targeted at 84%, which means that if you take all available PTO, you will not hit the target. The upside, is that you are not penalized for falling below 84%. If you exceed 84%, then your base bonus is increased by the percentage you performed over. The percentage increase on the bonus is far less than hourly overtime compensation, but at least there is some value added.

There are lots of opportunities for training, but they are often times difficult to attend, due to demands of client projects during the day. Enrichment activities (studying for certifications, volunteering on Pro-Bono projects, etc) are expected to be outside the typical 40 hour billable week. While these activities are not required, they are encouraged. If you are personally driven, then the time spent studying for certifications isn't all that bad. You can study at your own pace.

    Pros

This company has some great people that work there. If you are not married with Children, there are a lot of opportunities to stay active with in the company and in the community. The projects that they do are interesting and you can learn a lot in a short period of time.

    Cons

The hours are long, you are supposed to be the first one in and the last one out so the client thinks your worth their money....Also, there is not a ton of direction once you are assigned a project. The extra community events were for the most part, expected of you. If you have a family, it is tough because you spend so much time at work and doing the extra projects and community events that are "highly encouraged".

Absence of technical path is causing deep tech folks to see a void in career growth and eventually leave.

    Pros

    Great projects
    Good innovative work
    Good teams to work with
Company is finally reached a point of providing work life balance (it took them 5 yrs to change the leadership mindset)
Middle management or practice leads are truly the face of the company

    Cons

Disconnected Sr Leadership with on ground realities
Major attrition in West Cost office due to lack of focus from East Coast HQ
No technical path finalized even when the company has been talking about since 2 yrs
People management program doesn't work fir 80% of employees
Folks who are deep technical - ask lot of question on tech path before joining Acumen

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get truly connected with your employees not just via all hands or chatter or practice meetings
HR needs more delegated authority to make things happen. - they shouldn't be just a rubber stamp

    Pros

It's clear that Acumen Solutions cares about their employees, and chooses the right clients to do business with. I've been very pleased to see that the employees and management offer up a mix of fun in the workplace while at the same time give 100% to meet and exceed the needs of their clients. The support structure that is in place to help one another when someone needs assistance is amazing - great collaboration amongst the team.

    Cons

Your review is dependent on how well you interact with your manager. If your manager isn't reaching out to talk to you on a regular basis, then you must initiate those conversations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to provide the positive feedback and creative ways to keep employees engaged.

    Pros

The values and mission of the company -- service, excellence, and dedication to the overall community and industry-- are what we bring to clients, each other, and the non profits we support.

    Cons

If you can't handle a fast pace, accountability for your work, peer review and feedback, and a partner driven sales/services strategy, then this is not the place for you.

    Pros

Open work environment - Project work is focused on new technologies. The people at Acumen Solutions are some of the smartest I have ever worked with, as well as some of the easiest to get along with. They will go out of their way to help you when you're in need.

    Cons

It is consulting work so you might deal with unreasonable clients, but the project team is always there to back you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to keep people first - both the employees and clients. Continue to keep communication open and focus on our core values.
