    Pros

This company has some great people that work there. If you are not married with Children, there are a lot of opportunities to stay active with in the company and in the community. The projects that they do are interesting and you can learn a lot in a short period of time.

    Cons

The hours are long, you are supposed to be the first one in and the last one out so the client thinks your worth their money....Also, there is not a ton of direction once you are assigned a project. The extra community events were for the most part, expected of you. If you have a family, it is tough because you spend so much time at work and doing the extra projects and community events that are "highly encouraged".

    Pros

The people who work at Acumen are great. Almost everyone here has nothing but positive things to say about most of their colleagues. The company has different social events to help employees have fun and get to know each other outside of the office. Depending on your role and your manager, there are often great opportunities for growth. There are great awards programs and incentives to help recognize good work, although this is not used consistently and many managers have never taken advantage of it. The company offers beneficial training programs.

    Cons

People can get stuck on projects where they are not happy, and kept there months after being told they'd roll off. That is also the nature of almost any consulting firm. Once you reach a certain level within the company you are almost guaranteed to become a people manager. Some people are skilled at their job but do not have what it takes to manager people. It's unfortunate that many people have either taken the appropriate path to express concerns about their manager only to have nothing change, or choose not to say anything because they don't feel that they can be honest. So many companies are offering telecommuting and flexible work schedules and Acumen will likely never budget on the standard 8:30-5:30 workday at the office or client site.

    Pros

You can be successful, if you're an entrepreneur. Very limited travel projects if you want to stay in-town. There are some good people there from different backgrounds.

    Cons

People get stuck in roles they don't want to be in (one of downsides to a small consulting firm). There's limited options in what you can do. People get in ruts and don't see a way of getting out of it. So the obvious option is to leave. The salaries are not great. I have friends at other consulting firms making more. The mentoring program is not consistent for all employees. If you have a good mentor, you want to keep them. Otherwise, you'll get someone who really doesn't care and won't give you the time to get to know you. There are experienced hires that do not have a consulting background and they clash with culture I expected at Acumen Solutions. They were hired for their niche skill set(s). But I don't see them contributing beyond that.

    Advice to Management

Can we take a step back? The company is trying to grow very quickly. But the growth is contingent on hiring more people. There are two factors that will either make the growth plan successful or kill it in the next six to 12 months. (1) Solid profile hires that will continue to challenge themselves, contribute to successfully deliver, and promote/exercise the core values/culture. (2) "Show me the Money!" Competitive salaries attract solid profile hires and retain existing solid performers. When the market is hot, salaries need to match the market demand.

    Pros

Training Opportunities , HO , Benefits, good co workers, vacation time , work life balance, few good managers, location, recognition

    Cons

Upper Management, 401 k, quality of work, over commitments, opportunity to work on different prjects - if you do a good job on one project, you will be syuck to same until you leave the company, promotion criteria - very biased. Salary is bad

    Advice to Management

If you say you are an equal opportunity employer, then you should give equal opportunity to everyone. Increse salary bands rather than spending money on meaningless company celebrations/dinners

    Pros

The people - they are sharp and great people to work with. They like to have fun but work hard as well. Some managers are excellent and treat their employees very well, you just have to find the right one.

    Cons

Management can be hard to deal with sometimes. There is a tendency for senior to not be on the consultants' side when it comes to issues with direct managers. Also there is not enough importance put on internal departments, such as HR and staffing, so people in those roles tend to leave more than other internal people. There is also not as much focus on employee morale now as there was a few years ago. Communication is also not a strong point.
One big negative - telecommuting is frowned on, which doesn't make sense for a company that is supposed to be forward thinking.

    Advice to Management

Communicate more often and effectively with your staff.
