Advice to Senior Management
none
Pros
Everyone there was very professional and helpful. The team worked togehter and the work environment was very friendly. It was nice working there.
Cons
It was terrible that the upper management couldn't pull it together and decided to cut cost by outsourcing almost entirely and laid off most of the employees
Advice to Senior Management
Upper managment should focus on being innovative and try to insource operations, it's a good comany, just need strong and bright leadership
Pros
challenging work in RAID controller field.
Cons
no emphasis on OEM business
Advice to Senior Management
put more emphasis on training and keeping employees current
Pros
Great place to have an in-cube sabatical
Cons
You're not going to learn anything useful and there's no techinical leadership anymore.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay better to attract good talent and don't be so afraid to innovate.
Pros
It has retained its wonderful culture from the glory days. People work together well and are truly supportive of each other. Most people are able to maintain a very good work/life balance there. They still have a lot of cash, so they have been pretty generous with retention bonuses (cash as well as restricted stock).
Cons
It's a declining business, and the future roadmap to turn that around is very unclear. The executive team does not have a clear vision of what success looks like, so decisions seem to be more opportunistic rather than execution on a long-term plan. While the mechanisms to communicate with employees are all in place, the content is fairly weak. And of course, the low stock price can be either be seen as a positive (get in at the floor price) or a negative (it has fallen dramatically and has stayed low for a long time).
Advice to Senior Management
Hold on to the top caliber employees you have left by involving them more in the strategic plans for the company. There are a lot of good ideas that could be generated by this group that would result in both short-term and long-term gains for the company.
Pros
Adaptec provides a friendly yet challenging work enviornment. Adaptec is full of can do people who believe in making things happen. Adaptec is in the midst of change as a company and with this change a lot of opportunities are being created. You just need to jump in and help and the opportunities will present themselves.
Cons
I enjoy working at Adaptec and the people that work here. No complaints.
Advice to Senior Management
Let's keep moving.
Pros
Adaptec is a very friendly atmosphere to work in and not very stressful. Adaptec has good technology that is fun to work on. The middle level managers and below are truely good managers and care about their employees. They allow time off for things that "come up" and allow their employees to work from home a few days out of the week. It really makes for a good atmosphere to work in. Also, Adaptec does seem to pay fairly well plus the benefits are as good as other technology companies. I have really enjoyed the family atmosphere which is what has kept me from leaving (so far).
Cons
There is little to no leadership from the CEO. Adaptec keeps bouncing around to different product ideas because of a lack of direction. The CEO has done a good job getting the books in order but good books without leadership is not a successful company. The CEO needs to pick a direction and stick with it (right, wrong or indifferent). Without any communications on the company direction, it makes it hard to know where the employees should be directing their focus. With the company shrinking every quarter, it has been very hard to advance my career. The morale has been so low for so long, it makes it hard to come to work with a positive mindframe.
Advice to Senior Management
LEADERSHIP!! Adaptec needs someone to lead this company. The lack of communications is what is causing the employees to leave.
