Current Employee – been working at Addus Healthcare part-time for less than a year
Pros – Addus provides the opportunity to pick my own hours to work, which in turn allows me to still be a full-time Mom!
Cons – A down side to working this type of job is that working w/ the elderly, you never know from day to day if they will be in the hospital or other facility for an undetermined length of time or even pass away suddenly. Not only is it a difficult thing to watch, it can be very bad for the paycheck.

Current Employee – been working at Addus Healthcare full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Meet a lot of interesting people. Insurance and benefits with full time status.
Cons – Quite a bit of wear and tear on your vehicle. Low pay with little or no raises. Little recognition for the hard, and sometimes, difficult situations that are encountered. No communication between supervisors and workers in the field.
Advice to Senior Management – Local supervisors lack the ability to communicate effectively with clients or staff. Communication makes a business run smoothly and effectively. Clients need to know when their worker is sick and unable to make it to their house. It's the supervisors job to make sure another person is sent out to cover that client. It's also the supervisors job to make sure the staff have the proper information when they go to a client's home. It would be nice to have a schedule and not have to rely on my memory of what my schedule was six months ago. It would also be beneficial for the staff if we didn't have to give our personal number to clients because that's the only way the client can communicate with the company. It would be nice if the supervisors would return client's calls. Especially when it involves getting a new client. I gave out business cards with the local number on it and no one from the office ever called back. You have lost a client. I also don't like to have my clients asking if there is a different agency they can get their services from. It has happened more than once and I feel that it reflects badly on how management doesn't care whether they give good service to their clientele or not.

Former Employee – worked at Addus Healthcare full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Pay is resonable, decent vacation/ benefits package
Cons – The work environment at the corporate level is highly stressful. You are expected to stay late without much notice as though you don't have a life outside the building. They quote that they are a "family oriented" company which is purely a marketing ploy. New ideas for improvement are seldomly welcomed. They are set in their ways with little to no open mind to change. They tend to contain fires rather than extinguish them. Their operations remind me of water. Follow the path of least resistance. If you are a professional and one that believes in doing things the right way I would look else where. This is not a place for a career but rather a job. Something to get you by.
Advice to Senior Management – Slow down and stop trying to do everything all at once. Focus on your systems/ technology as they are horrible in comparison to competitors. Once you have your systems and operations locked down focus on your sales so that you can handle the business coming in the door with staff at hand. Currently you have no clue the staff it takes to run the business effectively while maintaining a healthy work environment. It is sad that you are so closed minded and blind. There are many talented and hard working individuals on your payroll that have lost their drive to do better. Any time an idea is brought up on how to improve a process it is shot down. Listen to your employees as they are the ones in the trenches and you all are lost in the clouds and have lost focus. It seems as if many bad decisions have been made and the company is trying to stay a float long enough to squeeze every penny out of it while they can. Your employees are an essential part of your success. Give them the time of day and do what you can to improve the stress level. Give them an incentive to work their hardest and you might be surprised what you get in return. It doesn't take much. Start with respect and acknowledgement and go from there.

Current Employee – been working at Addus Healthcare full-time for less than a year
Pros – Addus is truly for those who wish to "help" those in need of care.
Cons – This is much more of a quota driven sales job than one would be led to believe. Unfortuantely, the company does not offer any formalized sales training and the branches are left to figure out the market on their own with general tips and advice from Chicago HQ, where the presence and mechanisms are much different. A C-Level leader explained to a group of agency directors (during orientation) that "there was no place to go from this job"; a disheartening statement, at BEST. Salary, matches this sad expectation, and the workload placed on the branches (given the sales goals) is unrealistic. In addition, the benefits package leaves a lot to be desired and the medical benefit is very expensive (which is somewhat ironic). The organization, although (recently) public, operates like a "Mom & Pop" entity. If you are a "professional", I would look elsewhere to advance your career; be it in healthcare or otherwise.
Advice to Senior Management – The founder of the company is no longer the best person to run this company. You are a smaller entitity versus your competitors (Gentiva and Amedysis) and given that you are a public entity now, you have to start behaving like one (i.e. Strategic market planning, resource development and more of a formalized approach to your hires at the regional director level and above). If you wish to become more of a sales driven company, then start training the individuals that will be on the front line selling and making business calls. To anyone with some savvy, it appears as though the CEO was looking to "get rich" by taking the company public (before it was ready) and is now just trying to figure out how to maintain this wealth until it is time for him to step down, thus leaving him in the pseudo position of many a multi-millionaire or billionaire before him.
