    Cons

Poor salaries offered, hard to move up.

I have been working at Adelphi University

    Pros

Come in on time, keep it low key and you can be here for ever.

    Cons

Varies from department to department, but mostly overworked and underpaid, not the place to make real money, salaries are a complete joke, more than that an insult.
Supervisors are required to be inept to get those positions.
People on high ranking places are good at finding a scapegoat than at fixing problems, to fix problems they relay on intimidation and seat back to have someone that's working for peanuts solve the real issues, then take the credit.
Discrimination... Minorities do not stand a chance of growing here, they have to leave, and usually they do within 2 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start paying real salaries so you don't have people quitting so often and you have personnel who fully matters their field.
Take a deeper way more serious look at discrimination allegations.
Monitor the high level personnel who keep their jobs while their subordinates keep on dropping like flies.

I have been working at Adelphi University full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The campus is beautiful, community environment

    Cons

Low salary since within education sector, drama, drama, drama daily specifically with MCS, Public Affairs and the Admissions department

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire management in Marketing office and Public Affairs, they don't know what they are doing, clean house so the people that work there can enjoy their workplace environment.

I worked at Adelphi University full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The salary of $32,000 a year is about the only good thing about this place.

    Cons

There is no employee parking, expect to ride around for maybe an hour. Kept on probation for a few months to only be let go because the person whose job I filled wanted his/her old job back. Everyone who works there does not know what they are doing. They are reading directly from the website. The job is not an administrative assistant job, but more like a telemarketing job. The benefits are extremely expensive and if you take everything and include union dues, you are pretty much left with nothing. Tuition remission is a joke because come tax time you have to pay it all at once.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are so many things wrong I would not even know where to begin. But they should hire new people to run the departments and someone should keep checking on them. I hope they keep getting secret shopped because people really need to see how incompetent these people are and realize that this is the most poorly run University I have ever seen in my life. Since they all seem to know what they are doing, they need to figure out how to fix the University, not me.

    Pros

Adelphi offers a lovely campus, a fairly good collegial atmosphere and a nice amount of academically motivated students.

    Cons

Change occurs slowly, as with most large institutes; the vision is short-sighted; and advancement seems rather limited.

University Administrators are way too political (cut the nose to spite the face)

I worked at Adelphi University full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Small town feel, so generally everyone knew everyone else. Flexible with time and schedules. The president is a respectable man who seems to have tired very hard tird to make the University current with the changing times. On the surface, it appears to be friendly.

    Cons

The politics at Adelphi is so prominent, it's almost laughable. People would cut down and undermine their coworkers, supervisors and etc. to suit their own agendas. Only a handful realize what a mess they're in by having dug their own hole deeper. I wondered at times if I was working for a university or on the set of the political show "Scandal". Some adminstrators refuse to work with others simply because they did not want to (Apparently that's a valid reason at Adelphi if you rank high enough!).

Faculty hide behind their union and there really isn't much growth as a result. Rampant racisim, ageism, sexism, etc. People are appointed to positions that they never earned and those who have worked hard for years remain at the bottom. Promotions have to do with seniority ONLY sometimes, and not qualifications or skills. Though the salary isn't that high compared to other universities, if you are new to the university, there is a good chance you are getting far less than the person you occupied your position before you. Perhaps, you'll probably be offered far less than they intended for the job to go for, SO MAKE SURE TO RESEARCH YOUR POSITION AND NEGOTIATE! You'll regret it if you don't. It seems salaries are arbitrarily constructed, rather than based on skills, knowledge, equivalent experience, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work together rather than against each other. When is it ever wise to cut your nose to spite your face? If you want to be a profitable organization, run a business model that demands respect and continued growth. Otherwise, your enrollment will stay in the pits and you will lose more talent.
