    Excellent University to Work For

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsEveryone is very personable and welcoming. Beautiful and relaxing campus environment. Training available to all staff on a regular basis.A wonderful place to work. President and administration are caring and concerned.

ConsMedical benefits are expensive and could be included in the salary structure without additional charges. Parking in the university can be a challenge at times.

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer more competitive salaries and benefits including free/reduced degrees for all employees children above the BA level.

    Third tier reality

    Assistant Professor (Former Employee)
    Garden City, NY

ProsThis place is suitable for teachers.

ConsInfrastructure does not support progress in research. There are university policies that make certain research - that normally could be done in the undergraduate institution - impossible.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on achieving profit is not a long-term strategy. Higher SAT score limit for candidates during admission process and more balance between politics and integrity would be desirable.

A Good School, But Administration is a Joke

    Administrative/Staff/Lowly Peon (Current Employee)
    Garden City, NY

ProsThere's some talented faculty. Students are enthusiastic. No one seems stressed out. Health benefits are great--twenty vacation days a year, holiday week off, tuition remission. Beautiful campus. Bunny rabbits.

ConsFor a university, it's amazing how unintelligent the administration is. The rule seems to be to hire recent graduates, then promote them to director or assistant director (whatever that is, exactly). It seems like the university is run by pretentious, incompetent people in their twenties and thirties who don't actually know what they're doing. Salaries are abysmal. Extremely hierarchical. No rhyme or reason as to who wins favor and/or gets promoted.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you can't pay your staff, at least instruct the so-called management to treat them like human beings, not morons.
