I have been working at Adlib Software full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great leadership from Executive Staff. A small company with a big future. HR that actually works for the employees. Great company outings. Online training is encouraged and scheduled through PluralSight.

    Cons

Very little middle mgmt. so path to promotion not clear. HQ building is an older, humble building.

    Advice to Management

May need to be more aggressive in removing those who are less engaged. Legacy thinking and attitudes can be detrimental.

  2. Absent long term goals

I worked at Adlib Software full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly people and atmosphere. Small company that at least pretends to care about its workers. If you're a corporate drone or pretender who wants to BS your way up to department head, you'll do well there for a while. You can blame your subordinates and senior management will leave you alone for about three years.

    Cons

Management has no long term goals and it's obvious they and shareholders are only doing the minimum while hoping to be purchased. Regular turnover. Firing people provides amusement while letting managers continue the appearance of knowing wtf they're doing. Lots of office politics.

    Advice to Management

Management only pretends to listen to advice, so there's no point to offering any.

I have been working at Adlib Software full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly and professional environment, people are easy to work with. Most knows their expertise. People are closely tied. Work-life balance. Apparently Adlib still retained its vibe from the times when it was still small, and at 100+ staff it's amazing that most people (especially Mr. CEO) knows everyone else in the company by name - some people in the company actually goes by nicknames. The company values work-life balance a lot and most people as far as I know enjoys their daily work without feeling burnt out. The company's main focus is its own software product, which is a great plus in that its direction is very focused and daily work are mostly predictable. Almost everyone in the company knows technological stuff to some extent, so you are rarely questioned on "stupid" things, which is also a huge plus. Overall this company is quite good in my opinion.

    Cons

Unclear room for career progression. Management strategy re: development, QA and product management has been in chaos for the past year but was getting better recently.

I have been working at Adlib Software full-time

    Pros

    - Nice and professional co-workers with a good sense of (dry) humor - Friendly, professional, efficient and tightly collaborative culture - Decent work-life balance - Work time could be semi-flexible - Generally low turnover rate - Coffee, Foosball and every-once-in-a-while team events - The company is still relatively small and close, so you can get to know almost everyone.

    Cons

    - Sales turnover is very high - Sr. Management and general direction is in chaos - multiple people making decisions - seems to have gotten better recently but still chaotic - no one knows where the company is *actually* heading since different people are giving different stories - Lacks communication between departments (although they seems to be working on improving it as well)

    Advice to Management

Please try to make some longer term plans so we wouldn't end up pressured so much near release date, with no one knowing what we are doing... Also hopefully there'd be more communication so people can know what their related departments are doing, so that they may see a bigger picture and collaborate better.

I worked at Adlib Software full-time

    Pros

no pros there at all. Nothing to learn, nothing to gain, just waste of time.

    Cons

It's a poor management there. Well educated people lead company by ideas, skills and education. IT department management at Adlib don't have enough education and knowledge to lead the complicated development. Management is done just by politics.

    Advice to Management

    Replace IT department management.

    Pros

Work life balance, small office, relaxed culture, low turnover overall, pleasant people, good customer base, general growth, reasonable benefits, free coffee

    Cons

not so nice office, flaky strategy, bad product management, inexperienced sr management, flat growth recently, morale dipping, lax management, high turnover in sales

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to bring in some more experienced leadership.

Not so great at working together towards a single goal or vision - it's my way or the high way.

    Pros

The company has grown from a small collection of staff to over 50. It has managed to provide some suggestion of organization - albeit extremely loose. We get cell phones.

    Cons

The departments work in silos - senior VP's think they know it all and are unable to listen to those that work on the floor. Big ideas with little thought or notional planning. Senior managers are pompous idiots. We can't use iPhones.

    Advice to Management

Management does very little to contribute to working as a group. Executive fighting is not helping drive the company forward. No clear leadership from the senior management. Too much flip-flop approach.

Free coffee and pop, except who cares about diet Coke?

    Cons

Who's leading this place? Can't get a straight answer.

    Advice to Management

All over the place. No focus and no follow through.

    Pros

    - Friendly environment, very collaborative - Open door policy with management - Transparency and regular communication - Competitive salary/benefits packages - Value employee experience and job satisfaction

    Cons

    - Location - Burlington is nice but a bit far west for people located in Mississauga/Toronto - Company provides laptops and cell phones to individuals in specific roles, not to every employee

    Advice to Management

    - Adlib is what many employees look for in a longer-term position- feedback, regular communication, clearly defined goals/targets and good salary/benefits packages (especially when compared to small high-tech firms).
