Pros
I am showen respect. I manage my store and they let me do what I need to do to take care of it.
Cons
They need to improve the benefits. I would like for them to cover more of the cost of health insurance. Need higher pay for the store employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to look at the cost of health insurance for the store team members and high pay for the team members at the store level.
Pros
It can be a very laid-back place at times, and the people that I work WITH, but not FOR, are fun to be around and joke with.
Cons
The pay is VERY low, management borders on the incompetent and lack leadership skills in the location I work. Employee issues are not handled correctly, customer issues are ignored or swept under the rug, and there is little to NO positive reinforcement of jobs well done.
Human resource issues are ignored by upper management and the only people who seem to be hired currently are close friends or children of friends of the General Manager.
Turnover in retail is always high, but there are almost none who wish to continue working at this location for very much longer.
Advice to Senior Management
Show leadership to your employees. They are the link between the company and happy customers. Without them being comfortable in their jobs, then they will not pass that attitude on to those who walk in the doors.
If there are any issues within the store, do not ignore them and do not pretend that it is all "sour grapes." Customers will not trust those who work in Retail Auto parts, if they cannot answer simple questions, or are merely there to sell as much as possible and earn a paycheck.
If your employees don't care, it the employers don't care that the employees don't care, then customers won't care to come into your stores. It is as simple as that.
Pros
The good and helpful co-workers.
Working inside the building 90% of the time.
Work environment is clean and safe.
Cons
Some co-workers should not be STILL be there.
Working outside in the cold/wet without as much as a wind break.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen more to your employee's. They know what they need to do their jobs and help them get those things.Open communications between all company departments.
Pros
Clean work environment,.not dusty and dark
Cons
management trigger happy to write up employees for minor infractions, moving rules and goals for little more than a whim. Business model contrary to a good work environment. Employees are generally stuck in a job with no chance for promotions. Pay scales are half of most national chains.
Advice to Senior Management
Praise for a job well done, respect employees for what they can do, not what they can't do.
Pros
its a consistant job?
good benefits if you can afford them.
Paid holidays for full timers.
Paid vacation for full timers that are there for a year.
Cons
lack of pay
lack of upper management support or support in general.
lack of advancement in ADVANCE auto parts
screwed up work hours (3hrs one day, 10hrs the next)
beyond micromanaged
Advice to Senior Management
stop hiring externally, hire people that KNOW the auto industry and not printer/tv/tire sales.
fix your pay scale.
treat your employees with a bit more respect.
stop tossing money at more ways to micromanage your company and making more work for the people running your stores. and start taking care of the people that BRING IN your money.
Pros
The people u get too deal with and all the employees are great too work with from mangers too other sales people.
Cons
Nothing really other then no holiday pay till ur fulltime.
Advice to Senior Management
Noyhing it a great work place and the other employees are nice people. i like the place altogether.
Pros
The best reason overall is the people are friendly and the job is not to stressful, everybody knows what to do you dont have to keeo telling them what to do.
Cons
Some of the downsides to working at advance autoparts is sometimes you have to.work overtime and even bring your work home with you.
Advice to Senior Management
One piece of advice i would give to management is to offer a better reward system and to extend it to managent.
Pros
My coworkers were awesome as well as my manager, I had a lot of fun working there. You will be able to learn a ton about cars and how they work.
Cons
The pay is very lacking for the jobs that you will perform and in smaller stores many times it will be only two employees there at a time, which can be very stressful.
Advice to Senior Management
Some of us do work that others would charge good money for. You need to find a better way to evaluate all of the employees and pay the worthwhile ones accordingly.
Pros
Employee discount, but you can save more if you just shop online as a customer.
Cons
The pay is poor for the amount of tasks and knowledge you need to be successful.
You are expected to answer the phone while waiting on customers while at the same time stocking, taking care of plan o grams, and making commercial deliveries. You are expected to do all of this for under nine dollars an hour. Instead of advancing from within, management will hire outside leaving experienced workers at part time.
Advice to Senior Management
Poor management leads to poor retention. Customers leave when their favorite salespersons move on. Management with experience from working up from the bottom makes more sense then hiring management from outside businesses. Customers do not want to wait in line 20 minutes just because you don't want to give your employees hours due to sales forecasts, next time they will just go to the store down the road.
Pros
Great People working in the Stores and The Store Support Center, they want to help and help the customers. You will meet alot of Great People.
Cons
The company is changing and not for the better. When I first joined the company a peer told me to watch the mid level managers (Above DL) because the one claiming to live the values the most was the biggest liar. After my experience of the last year (s) he was right and I am certain that this runs all the way to the top of the company. Because when they sign off on the items that are not in line with the values they condon the lying and the NON VALUES oriented management styles of the upper management.
Advice to Senior Management
Either you live the Values or Don't MAKE UP YOUR MINDS! Also you are not a conventional retailer you are in the parts business. You are Not Best Buy or Walmart your business will never have a black friday rush! People dont come to your business to buy gifts the come to buy what they need!
Get IT! I don't think you every will! How Sad!!!!
