I worked at Advance Auto Parts part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people I worked with were great, fun people to work with. It was a real team effort. I had one of the best managers I have ever had thus far in my 25+ years of working

    Cons

They are way too focused on goals and meeting sales projection, to the point where there was no longer any job enjoyment or satisfaction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lighten up on the extremely unatainable goals. You're at the mercy of the customer. You can push a product untilthe cows come home, if they dont want to buy it they wont, and those goals may not be met for that day. DIY is always going to be that way, period.

I have been working at Advance Auto Parts full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Stable company with stock price outlook on the rise

    Cons

Current organization chain causes conflicting goals across departments. Too many departments under the direction of one individual

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leverage ideas ways to differentiate from AutoZone and O’Reilly’s instead of consistently reacting.

I have been working at Advance Auto Parts part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people at Advance do really know their stuff, and when they don't they want to find the answer. Advance has a good model to work from in the auto parts field.

    Cons

Logistics are horrible, inventory a nightmare and no one seems to care. Upper management is unresponsive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the best that Autozone, O'Reilly and NAPA offer and combine it with what we do well and no one will touch Advance. Realize that most of your success comes IN SPITE of upper management, not because of it.

I have been working at Advance Auto Parts full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Really good leadership team, fair pay with a good work/life balance. With the acquisition of GPI, AAP became the largest aftermarket automotive parts retailer in North America. The sky really is the limit for this company.

    Cons

Unfortunately the Minnesota office is closing and getting relocated to Raleigh, NC. While relocation packages are more than fair, it's a tough decision to pick up and move your family to keep a position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stability. Five years ago Minneapolis office was created and now shut down. Jobs were moved from VA to MN and are now going to CA or NC.

    Pros

Great company culture, not too big, easy to navigate and very collaborative, solution based thinking.

    Cons

High focus on shrinking SG&A which is overall good for company health but translates to very small or no annual increases for employees.

I worked at Advance Auto Parts full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    30j percent off auto parts

    Cons

Low wages, horrible management, you get what you pay for..don't ask a 9.00 an hour employee to do multiple things...especially when you can say "do you want fries with that" for the same amount of money and less bull.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get an education. They have many managers who have no business being managers and have little to no education.
