I have been working at Adventist Midwest Health full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Very clean and new environment. Great people and everybody is helpful. Patients are taken cared of to the best of staffs ability, unless things get busy. Things get busy a lot.

    Cons

Not enough staff. Unhappy staff will turn into unhappy patients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of good employees. Times are hard for healthcare but good employees are what will make or break this hospital.

I worked at Adventist Midwest Health full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The mission to extend the healing arms of Christ could not be more worthwhile but it more of a decoration than the way the C-suite runs the business.

    Cons

C-suite selection requires leader be of Adventist faith, which leaves a very small pool of qualified applicants. Leaders lack intelligence and vision. Hospitals are outdated with band-aided technology. I felt very uncomfortable treating patients with questionable technology, giving them questionable results.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in leaders with vision. Have the courage of your conviction. Do not let second rate physicians dictate how day to day operations should be run.

I have been working at Adventist Midwest Health full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Among people of faith, most are excellent to work with, good atmosphere.

    Cons

The Peter principle is evident in a manager he rose to the level of his incompetence. Being a Christian organization, people tend to be to optimistic and he lingers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

appreciate and trust employees. Listen and make good your promises to fix the brokenness stay the course! It's a good place but it is in your hands to make it excellent.

I worked at Adventist Midwest Health full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent staff chaplains, especially at Hinsdale and La Grange. The other two Adventist hospitals do not have chaplains of the same caliber.

    Cons

Management somewhat out of touch with the stress and low pay of chaplains. Too political. You need to be a SDA to advance. CPE program has a very bad supervisor who has negative personality traits that make the CPE experience miserable for interns.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay staff chaplains more. Hire more staff chaplains instead of laying them off. There is too much area to cover wtih too few chaplains. Fire the CPE supervisor if she is still there.
