    Pros

There is a strong camaraderie among coworkers, including Techs, Nurses and Doctors. Overtime is available, to compensate for chronic understaffing.

    Cons

In my experience, management will not work with your schedule if you choose to go to school and work full-time. Your only options are to find coverage among coworkers, switch to part-time status or remain a tech. Lateral moves are an option if one chooses, but that serves little purpose.

    Advice to Management

In healthcare, advancement is only possible with further education. More flexibility for student employees would benefit all parties involved. Otherwise, make it clear up front that only full-time applicants with no ambition need apply.

    Pros

If you are there long enough, you may be able to move within the numerous hospitals and the corporate I.S.

    Cons

The parking at LGH was horrible--added nearly 20-30min from parking to desk time

    Advice to Management

Don't micromanage your people; choose other leaders that are innovative rather than ones who will simply say yes and follow orders to a T

    Pros

-Decent benefits if you need them
-Good cafeteria as well as an Au Bon Pain for meals (if you get one)
-Newer areas of the hospital are beautiful
-Volunteers are exceptionally helpful to the staff

    Cons

-You are told straight out to minimize time spent giving compassionate care and comfort to patients for the sake of squeezing in as many patients as possible.
-Staff is not supportive of each other, was lied to about "teamwork" environment here as coworkers will quickly throw you under the bus. Favoritism also runs rampant.
-Often understaffed at the sake of saving money.
-Managers are not interested in your best welfare but about profits.
-Parking is a nightmare and crossing Dempster, especially if you work PM or Night shifts, is very dangerous. Shuttle bus runs very infrequently at these times.

    Advice to Management

Consider supporting your staff more, both when dealing with their own personal struggles (ie health issues effecting their ability to work) as well as in allowing them to give the best care to their patients and increasing safety by spending more time with patients. Also, do away with the "scripting", patients can see through it and it looks very bad. Finally, recognize that there are significant teamwork issues in particular departments (Pocu/Pacu) that need to be addressed.

    Pros

You get to work with some truly amazing people. Some of the Drs. here are short of brilliant, nursing staff is amazing, excellence in care always . Very flexible schedules and great team work. PTO hours are acquired which is wonderful if you don't want to loose money on sick days, or on days you just want to take time off. You get to self schedule yourself and get close to the days, hours that work best for you. And truly the staff makes miracle situation happen.

    Cons

Higher levels of compensation in certain departments is necessary.

    Advice to Management

Some of the management staff really needs have realistic ideas and be more active with all the units and actually engage in seeing the work load, stress level and actively figure out solutions and work on constantly bettering the environment in which we work.

    Pros

I have worked at Lutheran General Hospital for less than a year and it is great. Benefits. Flexible self-scheduling. Friendly environment. Huge hospital. Appreciative of employees. Everybody works together and ensures patient safety. Patients are truly the focus of the workers, but everyone still has fun. There are plenty of people who have been working there for over 10 years and that makes it a little more reassuring that I came in to a great hospital.

    Cons

Parking!!!! Horrible. but thank goodness for the garage. Cafeteria is a little pricy and not that great.

    Pros

The best thing about working here is that it's a big hospital with a small hospital feel. Also, administration and doctors are looking for the next innovative technique at all times.

    Cons

The challenges of working at Advocate Lutheran is the employee parking. The parking is ask the way across busy Dempster Street which is especially hard in the cold and rain.
