I worked at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital as an intern (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The laid back atmosphere. Everybody makes you feel comfortable and welcomed there.

    Cons

Some of the challenges are the parking garage for volunteers was across a very busy street and a great distance to get around the very large campus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The volunteer program is very accommodating with people's schedules. For people working on volunteer programs it would be nice to get some kind of certificate showing a completion of a summer program for students or something of that nature.

I have been working at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I have worked at Lutheran General Hospital for less than a year and it is great. Benefits. Flexible self-scheduling. Friendly environment. Huge hospital. Appreciative of employees. Everybody works together and ensures patient safety. Patients are truly the focus of the workers, but everyone still has fun. There are plenty of people who have been working there for over 10 years and that makes it a little more reassuring that I came in to a great hospital.

    Cons

Parking!!!! Horrible. but thank goodness for the garage. Cafeteria is a little pricy and not that great.

I have been working at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital

    Pros

The best thing about working here is that it's a big hospital with a small hospital feel. Also, administration and doctors are looking for the next innovative technique at all times.

    Cons

The challenges of working at Advocate Lutheran is the employee parking. The parking is ask the way across busy Dempster Street which is especially hard in the cold and rain.

I have been working at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The organization is great. They are very in tune with work-life balance.

    Cons

They tend not to get rid of their tenured associates- even if productiveness is going downhill. Majority is internal promotions, so it is hard for external candidates to get into Advocate HealthCare.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to hold people more accountable- especially management

I have been working at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital really sticks to it's mission. It treats employees fantastically. Unlike many places, the daily life of working in the hospital is based on respect, trust, and professionalism.

    Cons

Insurance benefits are outrageously expensive, for less than average coverage. However, one must recognize that this is common in health care institutions.

    Pros

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital has great benefits. Quality care is provided by staff. It is a very professional and exciting atmosphere to work in. The community has great respect for the hospital.

    Cons

I worked at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital

    Pros

Level 1 Trauma is challenging and fast-paced, with lots of opportunity for professional growth. The quality of care is excellent; Lutheran General is a hospital that I was immensely proud to work for.

    Cons

In the MOR, taking time off is difficult. Be prepared to work long hours and take lots of weekend calls, especially in the initial year of employment.
