    I worked at Aedas

    Pros

lots of work, great opportunities to be exposed to different projects all over China. Very busy office

    Cons

Design quality is low on average. there are some great projects, maybe 1 in 20. the rest are mediocre and poor. It is a company of quantity, not quality. There is very little technical knowledge and therefore building execution is very weak. perhaps 1/2 of all project contracts are only through SD phase. Therefore no quality control over final product. Senior leaders micro-manage and take credit for other's work. Some of the design directors make money for the firm and thus have job security, but they have too many projects on their plate, have no experience with quality product and this can't produce quality work.
Junior staff is overworked and under appreciated and underpaid for their contribution. Leaders in HK really can't lead an office long distance very well, though they try hard.
It is a culture of butt-kissing. Kiss the right one and you get promoted. It's not about skill, or talent that gets you to the top. It is common to be forced into a position that is not your expertise, then fired for not doing it well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

downsize, only take full service contracts, focus on quality.

I have been working at Aedas

    Pros

Opportunity to gain experience on a range of different projects, take on additional responsibilities and opportunities.
Good opportunity for a young graduate/Architect to gain experience and fast track the start for your career.
    Good Pay!

    Cons

Your experience working at Aedas can depends significantly on the team you are put into, little thought is put into what your interests are and what team you are suited to!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work life balance could be better!
More thought could be made towards junior staff development, interests and progression.

I worked at Aedas full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The salary offered is top-tiered. The office environment is bright and spacious. Office hours are normal, fewer overtimes are needed. Many large-scaled projects and opportunities but that depends whether you work for the right director.

    Cons

Corporate atmosphere. People between different teams do not talk to one another or share expertise. Can be difficult to move between teams. Directors seem to be competing with one another.

Large scale project, great design taste even for commercial buildings.

    Cons

Some directors seems like did not care about work life balance of their staff. Some have to work even on weekend.

I have been working at Aedas

    Pros

Pay is ok, nice office, people you work with are ok.

    Cons

Working hours can be very long. Directors design and all the rest execute, so you will have no design input. It is a very corporate atmosphere, and you can only grow if you know the right person. Some of the directors are bullies, be warned! You are expected to produce a lot and left to yourself with no support, the team I am in is understaffed. I have no role model to learn from.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be so arrogant, this is an architectural 'design' office, not a financial bank. See the talent the staff have and encourage more open design discussions rather than shouting/frightening ppl to death. You'll get more out of the people that way

    Pros

Aedas is a large practice with a diversity of projects across a large geographical that helps hem weather the ups & downs of the economy. There is an emphasis on quality design, and additional responsibility as available to those who show initiative.

    Cons

Due to the large size, some people can get lost or typecast into a specific role or job function. While some may like this others may not.
