Pros
One of the best reasons to work for Aerojet is that there are a lot of smart people that work here and one of the major aerospace companies in the Sacramento region. The pay seems to be fairly in line with what the general sacramento region gets. The work is not extremely difficult, depending on your field of engineering. On-site cafe as well.
Cons
The age difference between some employees is one of the major downsides. It's sometimes hard to associate certain things with that big of an age gap. Also the facilities are 50 years old.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop procedurizing everything and get rid of all the layers of difficulty. We are here to make rockets, not to make paperwork that makes rockets!
Pros
Reasonable hours and Good location.
Cons
No retirement plan, inability of management to control programs, little oppertunity for advancement
Advice to Senior Management
Pay attention to how your lower level managers are handling their support of pragrams. PMO is running wild and ignoring company procedures and guidlines and the managers are affraid to stand up and do anything about it. This creates ambiguity and reduces productivity.
Pros
office is close to home. boss looking over shoulder is very rare. office environment is good.
Cons
lack of communication, no work standards. nitpicking drafting department.
Advice to Senior Management
give new hires more indoctrination on aerojet's ways of doing things. provide long term assignments, not jobs lasting two days or two hours.
Pros
Very flexible work life balance. 9*80 work schedule permits taking every other Friday off. Competitive Salary.
The company pays a very competitive salary when compared with the current job market and location. Although not many vacation days are given, the company does have a 9 80 work schedule which means you work 80 hours every 9 days and get the 10th day off. This equates to having every other Friday off. The company does provide certain trainings based on department budgets and these trainings must be approved by your manager. The trainings are generally external but some internal training is also available.
Cons
Limited upside in terms of career advancement within the company. Very minimal annual raises. Minimal Feedback and evaluation.
There are many opportunities within the company in terms of lateral movement but continuing upward within one department can be very difficult as the majority of managers and directors have been with the company in excess of 20 years. Also, performance evaluations and feedback are required but are not taken to the extent that they should be. Salary bumps and raises are very structured and usually do not reflect the performance evaluations. Annual raises normally tend to be around the 3-4% range.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue working to develop employees via trainings, career advancement, interactive and formal feedback.
Pros
Benefits are great, as well as the compensation to its employees! Associates are friendly & enjoyable to work with...work environment is just what I was looking for in a new company (& I work a 9/80...every other Friday off!!) I look forward to working with this company until my retirement in another 15-20 years!!! Would highly recommend to others seeking employment!
Cons
Personally, I don't think that there are any! Since beginning with this company 3 months ago, I have heard only positive comments from others...everyone seems to truly value their respective positions within Aerojet.
Advice to Senior Management
No advice...I respect their leadership & value their collective knowledge in the industry.
