Pros
Exposure to entire manufacturing process of many different rockets.
Real work on current projects, even as an intern
Tuition reimbursement up to $10,000
Cons
Very quiet, non-social workplace
Very high cubicles that do not encourage interaction with co-workers
Minimal benefits of being an employee (No bonuses or sports leagues, etc.)
Advice to Senior Management
Aerojet leaders should make it a point to create a more friendly/active work environment. Company wide sport leagues as well as other interactive programs would make working at Aerojet more enjoyable
Pros
Defense company funded by the government
Work a 9/9/80 work schedule, get every other friday off
Week off during Christmas
Cons
Don't get paid for overtime
No recognition for work
Lots and lots of work
long hours
no pension, medical benefits are terrible
Advice to Senior Management
The management doesnt seem to recognize the hard work of the employees. Give employees a balance between work and personal life. Give some form of compensation for overtime or pension
Pros
good hours, good direct manager
Cons
poor benefits, poor management, bad place to work
Pros
Advanced aerospace propulsion technology, nice surrounding area to live
Cons
Poor career advancement opportunities, dysfunctional management, promotion based on seniority not merit, unclear communication regarding roles and responsibilities.
Advice to Senior Management
Major shakeup required from the ground up
Pros
Unfortunately the reason I show up id because the cafeteria has great food.
Cons
It seems that the project engineers are the incompetent puppets of the program office. The engineering managers are not far from that either.
Advice to Senior Management
listen to the engineers not the program office
Pros
9/80 workweek is great, 3 weeks vacation, 401k matching up to 4.5%. Employees are generally excited about their job
Cons
Upper management can be unrealistic, internal funding is impossible, almost no training for younger employees, no mentor program
Advice to Senior Management
Spend money to train your younger employees to ensure retirement stability. Revamp incentives and controls
Pros
Close to lots of fun things to do. Its cool to be a part of such a monumental event such as a rocket launch.
Cons
Middle layers of managment aren't able to make day to day decisions about their own organizations. Corporate VP's seem disconnected from the business.
Advice to Senior Management
Get to know your own company. Understand what impact your decisions and actions have on employee morale. Formulate a plan to restore order to the chaos.
Pros
Challenging work on rocket propulsion
Cons
Small company
Disrespect for contract employees
Advice to Senior Management
Don't bring in contractors from across the country
Pros
One of the best reasons to work for Aerojet is that there are a lot of smart people that work here and one of the major aerospace companies in the Sacramento region. The pay seems to be fairly in line with what the general sacramento region gets. The work is not extremely difficult, depending on your field of engineering. On-site cafe as well.
Cons
The age difference between some employees is one of the major downsides. It's sometimes hard to associate certain things with that big of an age gap. Also the facilities are 50 years old.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop procedurizing everything and get rid of all the layers of difficulty. We are here to make rockets, not to make paperwork that makes rockets!
Pros
Reasonable hours and Good location.
Cons
No retirement plan, inability of management to control programs, little oppertunity for advancement
Advice to Senior Management
Pay attention to how your lower level managers are handling their support of pragrams. PMO is running wild and ignoring company procedures and guidlines and the managers are affraid to stand up and do anything about it. This creates ambiguity and reduces productivity.
