  • Longer days or shorter days as needed (within reason), and took advantage of the 9/80 schedule (in 7 reviews)

Cool place to work, but you will never make money

    I worked at Aerospace Corporation

    Pros

Cool projects. It's gov work, as long as you don't commit a felony, it's hard to get fired.

    Cons

Compensation is terrible for Los Angeles. Forget about moving up. It's gov work, as long as you don't commit a felony, you don't get fired, which also means there's not incentive to work hard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

PAY MORE $. No incentive to work hard.

I have been working at Aerospace Corporation full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Salary is pretty good, when you include benefits

    The job is very stable

The company works in a wide range of areas, and rewards those who go above and beyond.

The company has great values, and is very concerned with doing the "right thing"

    Cons

VERY old working populace (its one of the companies selling points for "experience"). Average age of 50 when I worked there.

The culture is pretty much old-school. Go in, work your hours, get out. While there is some comradery between employees and people are friendly in general, its pretty clear your job is to sit and work.

Everything goes at governmental paces, and there are lots of processes and regulations you need to go through in order to comply with the customer.

Even though I had just graduated I was left to work completely on my own. Which is good, because I owned the projects I worked on and had responsibility - but it was bad, because my only mentor was the Internet.

Because the company is primarily a defense contractor, the defense industry budget cuts are hurting. They need to switch more ops to working with companies like Space-X

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage collaboration between employees, and try to set up situations where employees can help each-other out on improving code.

Easy work, nice pay, but don't expect your technical skills to be kept to date

I have been working at Aerospace Corporation full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Easy work, low stress, decent pay for what you do, lots of travel opportunities to build up frequent flier miles, great place for people nearing retirement or former military personnel because one can go to countless meetings without having direct accountability. The business metric to the government is a unit of effort (STE) so one can just show up and that counts towards towards the company's deliverable to its customer. You will become very proficient with creating and using cliparts and Powerpoint slides.

    Cons

Company should be called "meetings R us", people spend all their time talking and attending meetings. Few people have actual experience building or designing anything, but they can talk about what someone else should do. If you are a young engineer that wants to apply your technical skills to build something, be innovative, or want to be surrounded by the best design engineers, this is not the place to be. A lot of the people like to be managers because they don't have to find a Job Order because they can just tax their employee's charge number and not have to do any work. It's even better in the program offices where one gets a dedicated charge number.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the several layers of management so people have to work.

    Pros

Interesting work and opportunities to work with some of the brightest people in the industry. A diverse workforce that focuses on independent objective analyzes.

    Cons

Disappointing management and lack of communication from management at most levels in the organization

A company mantra that "our people are our most important asset " is just lip service.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just because someone has above average technical skills does not mean they'll have above average, or even average management of leadership skills

Take care of your top performers or eventually you will no longer be a leader in the industry
