    Recruiter didn't read my paperwork

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsThey are eager to hire

ConsThe recruiter didn't read all of my paperwork or check all of the necessary qualifications for the contract position I was applying for. So, I was hired, and then un-hired.

Advice to Senior ManagementKnow if there are certain requirements for the contractors you work with before screening potential employees.

    Good foot in the door

    Recruiter (Current Employee)
    San Jose, CA

Pros-Strong base salary, at least in the bay area.
-Reimbursement for meals, mileage, entertainment pertaining to work.
-Excellent training. In the staffing world, working at Aerotek is like learning how to run with ankle weights.
-Great culture--everyone is very outgoing, friendly, and usually about 0-7 years out of school, making for a very work-hard, play-hard culture. Everyone says this, but I mean it. Aerotek likes to have fun.
-Potential for a ton of money. At my peak I was pulling in 25% of my salary through commission.

    Cons-No work life balance.
-It's very cult-like. The "kool-aid" is a real thing. If you're not bleeding Aerotek's blue and silver, and if you're not chanting the Aerotek mantras, you might stand out.
-Too much falls on the recruiters, not enough on the Account Managers. No matter what, a mistake will fall on the recruiter in some fashion--either your boss is mad at you, the client is mad at you, your contractor/candidate is mad at you. Someone is mad at you.
-You will collect a ton of gray hair. Seriously.
-Micromanagement. If you're looking to be treated like an adult, look elsewhere.
-High turnover. In 1 year, I have seen 20+ people quit/get fired.

Advice to Senior ManagementThink about the attrition problem. Think about why people quit. Is it one thing or is it a few things adding up and accumulating? Stress + not being treated like an adult + too much micromanagement + not enough success fast enough + other companies offering better pay and work cultures=goodbye top talent.

Bullheaded management don't want to help advance and train their subordinates.

    Recruiter (Former Employee)
    Boston, MA

ProsDecent incentive to make a lot of money as they put you in positions to succeed. Training is professional at the beginning.

ConsManagement are not great listeners and don't want to help you learn and succeed on the job. Long hours are not worth work life balance.

The experience can be awesome if you work with great people at your assignment (client), and have an engaged recruiter.

    Marketing (Former Employee)
    San Jose, CA

ProsBeing placed in an assignment where the client company treats contractors like their regular employees can create a positive environment. There is also consistency when receiving weekly compensation.

ConsHaving a recruiter (point of contact) that is disengaged and is slow to return calls, or sometimes may not return them at all.

Advice to Senior ManagementEnsure that all recruiters not only provide great communication with the client company, but with the contractor as well.

Aerotek - Hard work but it can pay off.

    Technical Recruiter (Former Employee)
    Norfolk, VA

ProsStrong company culture, transparent values and mission. A focus on giving and receiving feedback. Clear goals and incentives. Can be fun and lucrative if you are willing to work hard.

Cons"Jock" mentality. It is a very testosterone driven workplace in an attempt to drive competition and success. It can be a little overwhelming. They also don't pay great, although I've heard the base salary has been raised since I left the company. You can make a lot of money but you have to be willing to work a hell of a lot. Your work/life balance definitely suffers.
