Pros
Good Pay, great systems and communication. we had a full cafe and a gym on site. Very good security too.
Cons
In the sales dept. you will get walked all over by people if you allow it. Management beign friends with your peers can also be an issue when it is time for rewards. Medical benefits are poor for being a "Health Insurance Company".
Advice to Senior Management
Open your eyes more and pay attention to your team! All management is worried about is numbers. you lost good hard working creative people because you don't really know who is good and who is not!

Large companies change slowly in respect to overall trends

Advice to Senior Management

Cons
There was no set structure or oppourtunity to advance
Advice to Senior Management

Pros
Good company except when laid off.
Cons
After ten years at Aetna in NJ , I was laid off. Working 3 areas in customer service , broker liaison, and the medicare health unit department that was eliminated due to lack of funds. I cannot find a decent job in this terrible economy as a middle aged person. I have been told they are only hiring within the organization and not externally . Therefore no jobs are available on the external posting website unless top management or the nursing fields.. This keeps me at bay from being able to post or looking like a stranger as if I never worked there in other positions or locations. There loyalty to laid off employees is HORRIBLE! This company has no fairness or sensitivity to people they lay off ! Aetna's awards and recognition for being a great employer are really not deserved due to this issue. Ask any of us!
Advice to Senior Management
Suggest they have only 1 personal recruiter be assigned for each ex-employee in good standing to help you get back in after laying you off.
Pros
Quarterly Bonuses
monthly PTO accrural
Off site team functions
Cons
Terrible BENEFITS!
Many of the managers/supervisors are rude
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees; we are the ones who do the work!
Pros
Good salary & benefits
Great training for operations & day-to-day needs
Able to grow my network across the country
Corporate directives are well communicated
Cons
Middle & Upper Management is not trained well -- telling staff "because I said so" is not the way to motivate employees long term.
Advice to Senior Management
Develop a leadership program, one that's as rigorous as Six Sigma, and require ALL management to participate in the program, be tested/certified.
Pros
One of the best reasons to work for Aetna is the opportunity to make a difference each day. No two days were ever the same.
Cons
They need stronger leadership in the local markets to achieve consistent success.
Advice to Senior Management
They local markets are what make the company and it imperative that you have the right people in those positions.
Pros
Job security, weekends off, paid holidays, PTO time is nice... they are good with the amount of time off they offer their employees.
Cons
Not competitive in pay and benefits. The amount we pay for benefits is outrageous for working for the company and pay raises don't even keep up with cost of living. This past year my raise was $800 and that is with a good feedback review.
Advice to Senior Management
Increase salaries, improve cost of benefits. It's all about the money.... for Sr. Management who gets paid millions a year but the people actually doing the work....
