Pros
Excellent educational opportunites with in house teachers and an educational wing in Middletown. But since the Middletown lease was up and all who worked there were etiher asked to work from home or move to the old ING building, not sure if the educational wing as also transplanted in Hartford.
Cons
If your relationship with management is not good, move to another department.
Advice to Senior Management
Do not assume top leadership has the best intersts of your most valuable asset, the employees in mind-- as opposed to their own career aspirations of primary or seemingly the only one that matters.
Pros
Most supervisors are very nice and helpful.
Local fast food places sell lunch on-site.
Proximity to stores, restaurants
Lobby looks nice.
Cons
Crowded cubicles.
Rotating door firing policy.
Low pay.
Vacation pay=sick pay
Not enough parking
Filthy break room/bathrooms
Advice to Senior Management
Once you have trained people, keep them instead of discarding them and hiring more people. Respect your employees enough and they will respect you.
Pros
short commute, I liked that there was flexibility with taking time off for vacation. STD and LTD benefits were good.
Cons
My manager was not encouraging and his manager didn't seem to care or acted like she didn't notice at all.
Advice to Senior Management
My advice to the leadership at Aetna is to listen to your employees more and what all of their needs are.
Pros
It us to be a great place to work, with laid back people whom appreciate the work you did and were quick to praise.
Cons
Everything I said above went out the window recently and is now a place that is non of the things I describe. Just another position.
Pros
Values, people, capabilities, autonomy, my direct boss. Most of the people who work at the company truly care about our customers and the success of the company, and do the right things for the right reasons.
Cons
Ron Williams' retirement
Layoffs
Stress
Constant threat of outsourcing
Advice to Senior Management
Value the right things and the right people.
Pros
Nice office, good location, you can work at home in certain positions
Cons
Horrible management, too many clicks, pay is way too low, they constantly do lay offs so the people left do the work of all the ones laid off
Advice to Senior Management
Learn how to treat people and talk to people with respect. I cant tell you how many times Ive overheard managers yelling at employees in front of other employees!
Pros
Integrated company so advancement into various areas within the company is a possibility for most
Cons
Company has had many downsizings during times where profits were not hitting goals. Its not just letting go of poor performers, but letting go of whole departments with no notice.
Pros
Modern and clean work environment. Nice air conditioned offices. Updated technology. Good online tools for doing your work. Flexible work schedules.
Cons
Weak leadership. Incompetence is tolerated if you are "in" with the head of human resources. Not safe to speak your opinion or share ideas that don't directly make HR leaders look good. All the good people leave to join other companies.
Advice to Senior Management
Dear Senior Management: it is time for a change in the HR department. Find a real HR leader with courage and relevant experience. Toss out all the "yes" people in the next layer of management, too. Aetna can do better.
Pros
Ok pay, allows to work at home, great co workers, some good manager, limited advancement
Cons
poor benefits, limited locations,too big
Advice to Senior Management
offer more advancement opportunities to your employees, keep them happy and your customers will be happy
Pros
Telework options, work/life balance, employee discounts
Cons
Lack of career advancement, frequent layoffs
Advice to Senior Management
Needs to take more chances in hiring and promotions instead of looking for people to already know the job so you won't have to spend any time training.
