Advice to Senior Management
On the right track keep it up
Pros
ability to work from home, ability to work from home,, ability to work from home,, ability to work from home,
Cons
do not expect to gain knowledge by learning from someone - learn on your own. A lot of work is outsourced.
Advice to Senior Management
let management of all level to actually start managing and getting their own ideas on the table, force them to learn and manage by example.
Pros
The people I work with are some of the hardest working team oriented get the job done bunch I have seen anywhere
Cons
Pay is mediocre. Time off is constrained by who signed up when due to chronic lack of adequate staffing. Again Poor staffing has been a constant since I came on board 2 years ago. People come and the smart keep right on going. The training is fair. I have been reading some of the comments and maybe it is just my job description by my training if Fair at best.
Advice to Senior Management
Get a clue. From a recent training I had to take there is a huge disconnect. No one really knows what the front line does.
Pros
the ability to tele commute after working one year
discounts with different companies
loose dress code can wear jeans
Cons
half and hour lunches
pay is not enough for the work that is assigned to you
cannot take off the month of January at all
insurance premiums are very high even though you work for health insurance
not flexible with hours
Advice to Senior Management
to do more surveys with in national accounts
Pros
Overall an ethically run company, senior management does a good job communicating with employees about important company issues
Cons
Limited opportunities for advancement, poor talent management
Advice to Senior Management
Retaining talent is critical to achieving industry leaderrship. Devote my resources to identifying top performers and providing opportunities for advancement.
Pros
Good training resources available if you are self motivated to make use of all that is available.
Better than average benefit package; includes both 401(k) AND a pension plan.
Good place to learn about the healthcare industry.
Cons
Some areas have long work hours and this is all through the year.
Take home salary is above average, though some benefits like pension, tuition assistance and health care contributions make up a good chunk of the overall benefit package.
Advice to Senior Management
Rewards and recognition could be better. Speed to market could use improvement; it takes forever at Aetna to get changes implemented.
Pros
Aetna has great resources and opportunities as a National Industry leader.
Cons
Aetna is too beaucratic at times. Gets in it's own way of getting things done efficently.
Advice to Senior Management
I believe Senior Management should strive in providing more open and timely communication of short and long term goals both on a global and departmental basis.
Pros
It's a job and the people are generally very friendly.
Cons
Management views employees as a necessary expense for doing business; little or now employee loyalty is the result. They also initiate a number of initiatives to improve employee morale and assess advancement opportunities, but these initiatives are insincere. Often, these initiatives are reviewed against metrics regarding participation and completion rates (ex: 100% of employees reviewed), but little or no attention is givne to the quality of information exchanged. And, little or no followup. Lastly, for being a healthcare company, their employee health benefits are the worst I've ever had. They often "experiement" with new HC benefits programs and force them on the employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat your employees as an asset and value their experience and knowlege to develop a committed loyal staffing model.
Pros
Flexibility to work at home
Cons
Pay is not good. Favortism, Benefits are terrible
Advice to Senior Management
Too many upper management staff that do nothing but delegate all their work to their managers under them.
Pros
At Aetna you're treated fairly and there are plenty of opportunities to advance. I have a great boss that has helped me when I've needed time off, they undestand that you have a family and that things happen when you need time off. They really tap into other talents you may have to create a better work environment.
Cons
The health benefits are pretty poor for being a health insurance company. You would think that they'd give you a health plan with a low deductible, but the premiums and out of pocket are failry high. The turn-over is somewhat high, but it's not due to the company, it's due to the lack of compntency of the people that they hire.
Advice to Senior Management
I think we'd like to hear more from them sometimes.
