I worked at Aetna full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

For the ambitious person there are many opportunities for advancement and cross training. They work hard to find build and keep top talent.

    Cons

With over 150 years behind them there is a constant struggle to get leaner. Which means that there is always staff cutting. This can lead to a "save my job" mentality in some management and staff.

I worked at Aetna full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed being able to work with my clients with no barriers. Plenty of time allowed to work with clients vs. some places allow only 10-20 minutes per call, we had 30 minutes +. Work load was manageable.

    Cons

Differing management styles, while even on the same team. Technology was old and limiting. No opportunity for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ask and listen to employees before making changes to see if it will be beneficial for the people actually using the technology.

I have been working at Aetna

    Pros

Choose the right department and you may be good..weekends off .....Accrue PTO from the first day of employment

    Cons

    Horrible benefits
    Salary is low
    No incentives
    Training is not good
    Time off is difficult

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to take some classes on how to be an effective supervisor, promoting individuals who don't have the proper skills just doesn't cut it.

I have been working at Aetna

    Pros

Working from home enables a flexible work environment and less stress environment. Vacation time is approved when asked. Zero liability compared to retail or hospital setting. Work at home allows no commute to and from work.

    Cons

I really have no cons to this job. Compensation is less than retail but completely worth it when work life balance is given consideration.

I worked at Aetna full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Cafeteria. Good orientation except if you are having trouble. Do not work orientation around your needs
Employees are very friendly and are helpful

    Cons

Orientation. Very complicated computer program. Terminate you after 30Days after telling you you have 90 days! My holidays are ruined now without a job

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of changing preceptors ( I had 3). Stick with one. Too hard to learn when they all tell you different ways to do a task. Don't just listen to you preceptors supervisor should see with her own eyes spend time with employee to get a better understanding ,

    Pros

Casual dress code depending on your department, employee appreciate every week, enough challenges to keep you interested and not bored, some of the nicest people you'll ever work with, holidays off, unlimited overtime when available.

    Cons

Management either works from home or is in a meeting, so if you have questions you usually have to ask your peers
