Your success depends on if you work for "Aetna" or "Coventry"

I worked at Aetna (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great internal training and the entire hourly staff recently received a pay increase to $16/hour.

    Cons

Management needs to let go of old ways and move forward with upcoming changes if they want to succeed in a competitive healthcare market.

    Advice to Management

You cannot expect your staff to perform properly if you do not keep them well informed of upcoming changes.

I worked at Aetna full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

They seem to be making the right moves to be competitive in the health insurance business in the near future.

    Cons

With all the recent acquisitions, Coventry and most recently Humana, there will be alot of change and uncertainty as the companies integrate systems, organizations, departments, etc.

  3. Unorganized for such a large company

    Pros

Coworkers were fairly nice, but there were some that were standoff-ish. Building is clean and new.

    Cons

Management is unorganized and seemed unprepared for growth. Tasks were given at a rapidly increasing rate, while keeping the same expectations for completing the previous ones.

    Advice to Management

Slow down, make a plan. Delegate certain things to specific groups, not everything to everyone equally as not everyone is capable of handling increased workloads, forcing those that can handle it to pick up their slack at no additional incentive rate.

I worked at Aetna full-time (More than 10 years)

    Cons

Not the best personal insurance, difficult to move up when its a business need in the current department.

    Advice to Management

I worked at Aetna full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    PTO, work at home, wellness

    Cons

management! There is a lot of micro management. Bullying is a big problem by a few female managers and it is just too darn bad that no one does a darn thing about it. Karma!

    Advice to Management

Listen to your frontline employees. Don't waste the employee survey! If you really want our opinions then listen up.

I have been working at Aetna full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexibility of many positions allow work-at-home F/T (and they supply everything you need), benefits are good, the overall structure of the company seems stable and looking towards the future.

    Cons

No formal HR Department so you have to figure out how to do or find a lot of things on your own (especially when your manager isn't sure how to help you), they have subpar IT department that sometimes takes a while to get things figured out.

    Advice to Management

Outsourcing things like HR and IT isn't always best!

I have been working at Aetna full-time

    Pros

Good people, good pay, good benefits. Plenty of growth opportunity.

    Cons

Sometimes reactive instead of proactive. The health insurance could be better.

    Advice to Management

Become familiar with the current generation in the work place.

I have been working at Aetna full-time

    Pros

Employee oriented programs and ways to help you move up through the organization. Lenient on schedules. Friendly management. Encourages learning of different departments and programs.

    Cons

Health Insurance benefits are not all that great. Raised min wage standard but others making slightly above that did not receive bump in pay so people who walk in can make same as someone with years experience. Production based environment.

    Advice to Management

Be open, collaborate more on what employees want/need. Encourage more growth. Make time for meetings and thoroughly cover new processes in training environments.
