I have been working at Aetna full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I started with this company in 2011 and it was great!!

    Cons

The world of health benefits is changing so Aetna is changing with it. Unfortunately, this means layoffs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Demonstrate appreciation to your employees by displaying the core values instead of just talking about it.

I have been working at Aetna full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    A job is a job

    Cons

No ergonomic budget. Need a new chairand can't get one and to get a back support for chair takes an act of congress. Treat us like slaves no appreciation and sent 70% of our work to India for cheaper wages.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate your workers and you may get even more from them.

Had the potential to be a great company but consistently makes decisions to offshore and lay off employees.

I have been working at Aetna full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Training budget
    Flexible schedules
    Allows work at home

    Cons

    No career building
    No growth opportunities
Consistently make the wrong decisions and never learn from the negative outcomes

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care about your employees more than the image of caring. Provide great health insurance for better costs rather than mediocre health insurance for high cost claiming it is "Industry Standard" when it is not. Even if it is, Aetna should lead the industry rather than matching the declining "standard". I have worked for this company for over a decade and when I joined Aetna still had a vision to be the best and do the right thing, not just do what is required to make money.

    Pros

PTO, Some managers are very cool just not mine & some of the benefits are great!

    Cons

MICRO MANAGEMENT! Hostile work environment. If you are not a favorite forget about it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please listen to your employees! Please take a look at a certain Director who's female who treats employees like GARBAGE! Have enjoyed working for Aetna but she has ruined it. Just awful to work for.

I worked at Aetna full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Lots of on-site amenities, great 401K matching.

    Cons

Most managers are out of state and work from home. This makes it difficult to establish a solid relationship with employees.

I have been working at Aetna full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Overall the organization is a good place to work. There are a lot of opportunities for growth. Senior leadership does a good job in communicating the annual goals of the organization. The work at home policy is fantastic and it allows for greater flexibility in the work/life balance.

    Cons

As some others have stated, some managers only care about numbers. Promotions and favoritism are quite prevalent in the various departments. Not all managers are receptive to new ideas. Unfortunately, due to the changing environment of health insurance, there is a constant state of restructuring. The inevitable outcome is lay offs which have been occurring at least once a year.

I worked at Aetna as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Corporate culture was very inviting and accommodated my presence very well. I learned a tremendous amount about project management and the healthcare system in the United States. Great opportunities to expose yourself to executive speakers, volunteer programs, and internship-based activities/assignments.

    Cons

The only con was the lack of interns at my particular location. While the internship was focused in their headquarters in Hartford, CT, the Jacksonville, FL had a very small amount of interns.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management during my internship was incredibly helpful. I learned a great deal through my weekly one-on-one meetings with my manager, the constructive criticism was very beneficial, and the opportunity to expose myself to many facets of the company through my manager's connections was extremely rewarding.

    Pros

Aetna has a very ethical and open environment, provides great benefits and promotes equality in all aspects. Multiple locations all across nation and plenty of work at home opportunities add to the over all appeal of this compnay

    Cons

Nothing really that would stand out as a con. Personal growth could be a challenge at times, if not actively pursued within the company career ladder.
