    Pros

It is an OK place to work for...not great. Depends on department I suppose. Some better than others.

    Cons

No room for growth unless you are well connected. Unfortunately that's how it is at this place.

    Advice to Management

I'm sure management will keep on doing what they do so I will not waste time giving them advice.

I worked at Aetna (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working with large company provided a lot of new resources and opportunities after our small company was absorbed into a new department within the non-medical insurance division. I was able to work with a number of different sales groups in order to promote the new products/functionality that the 'merger' brought to the company.

    Cons

Depending on the local leadership, cliques formed barriers to true collaboration and were hard to overcome. Many times decisions were made based on purely financial decisions (not taking into account the affect of those decisions on staff or clients).

I worked at Aetna full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A multi-cultural diverse employer and a health insurance-industry leader with a global presence. Work life balance is encouraged, as is healthy lifestyle practice.

    Cons

Company sometimes pushes its own agenda ahead of customers; ivory tower view of products & system enhancements may fall short of reality and may ignite issues whose resolution maybe slow to realize for the end users as a result of siloed internal channels.

    Advice to Management

Lead like a true general and mingle with your troops on the battle field.

I have been working at Aetna full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great work environment, position allows for great work and life balance, pay slightly above industry standards. ability to work from home, on-boarding is self directed but are clear on where you should be / goals. Everyone is friendly, tuition reimbursement is ok, great reimbursement for gym membership, cafeteria onsite

    Cons

Some on-boarding task / training require self motivation / discovery. A lot of telework makes training new staff tough at times.

    Advice to Management

    none

Hours, location, and they have raisied base pay to $16.00 an hour.

    Cons

Call center environment, negative environment, management not responsive to employee input or suggestions.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the people actually doing the work. Systems in place make procedures less productive.

I have been working at Aetna full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Always room to grow, PTO opportunities are readily available, plenty of volunteering opportunities, most managers listen to employees.

    Cons

Pay increases can be slow in coming and limited when you transfer between positions [salary increase cap] and new hires make more than transferring employees.

    Advice to Management

Stop the caps and pay ALL your employees competitive wages.
