Pros
Great staff (for the most part)
Cons
Executive management is a joke
Advice to Senior Management
When a whole department brings issues to your attention regarding the leadership of the department, you may want to get rid of the leadership of the department. There were many talented people working there that got chased off.
Pros
Like any sales job its about what you make it. Attitude is everything and getting what is yours is key. The commission structure is strong up front for new agents and residual income is something to look forward to for those that can stick around. If you can make something out of nothing or have a book and want to make it stronger this is the place for you. Everyone is helpful because they can split commission with you on new business.
-You own your book of business here
-Independent and all the discipline that is required to pull it off.
-No territories (good or bad its up to you)
Cons
-Low marketing support you eat what you kill here there are no inbound calls here.
-Other agents are your biggest competition here watch out for upper management snaking your accounts check your paperwork just because someone has been trying to get into a place for a while doesn't mean they have the right to take the account because you managed to get it first through a warm lead.
-management is promoted by the numbers here so the motivation is directed by filling jackets and seeing who sticks
-training exists, but like all other things its on you to get it. Sales school is two days after that product training is done on a rolling basis and is optional to be done on your own time early in the morning (neutral some might like this others might not)
-high turnover can poison the market against you in some instances as the place gets called to death by someone new almost every week. Teleprospecting becomes more difficult
Advice to Senior Management
Development in offices outside of the regional office can be a little thin. There are some efforts to reduce travel, but districts aren't properly motivated to train agents in house. Management is more motivated to fill jackets and just deal with whoever sticks, while this will weed out the weak quickly it can also burn a lot of bridges in the process as businesses can find it challenging to build a relationship with Aflac if they've had several agents come through.
Pros
-Supportive coworkers when you first come into the company
-Thorough training program by regional sales manager
-busy work environment when you're at the right branch
Cons
-Cold calling and door to door everyday can get old quick unless you're motivated
-Brand awareness is still weak in some areas
-Some areas are already penetrated leaving you to go farther to look for business
Advice to Senior Management
Hiring effective and knowledgeable leaders is very important. Promoting on a performance based perspective makes the supervisor feel like they own the place leading to poor performance by both the supervisor and the new associate.
Pros
Aflac provides very competitive compensation and benefits. Above average training is regularly conducted. Management is very professional.
Cons
Like any large corporation, operational changes can take forever. There can be departmental overlap of responsibilities as well as lack of accountability for some responsibilities. Corporate politics are alive and well at Aflac.
Advice to Senior Management
The market place has changed and will continue to do so. The field force model need to be updated to match the current market place.
Pros
Well known company with good reputation
Cons
Difficult to sell supplemental insurance in todays financial market - Dificult (and embarassing) to cold call on companies when 5 other Aflac agents were in during the previous month.
Advice to Senior Management
Need a better sales model for new agents - with the name reconition should be able to generate leads.
Pros
-Learn independence, and autonomy. Great pay if you work the hours to earn it. Need to be clear about goals and long term vision.
Cons
- Completely unpredictable environment, lots of doors shut in the face. Very frustrating when somedays you work long hours for no pay.
Advice to Senior Management
Have a better training program, treat your new employees well to reduce the high turnover, need to understand overlapping territories better.
Pros
They pay their claims and a well received line of products.
Cons
If you do not have a spouse with a steady pay check and benefits, you better have your own nest egg to lean on. Constant problems with billing. If you falter there's plenty on recruits behind you that have family members who have a business. Sold 90k this year made $24k
Advice to Senior Management
Slow down the revolving door of recruits and treat your sale force as valued employees, this in turn will up the professionalism and standards of the front line employee.
Pros
This is a commision based job. . Yes, you can make an amazing amount of money but it's a dog eat dog type of business because you are selling insurance.
Cons
They get you in with nothing but lies and have a horrible management staff at least at the location I was at.You have to get your own leads, your own business, do your own paperwork, basically work for yourself and recruit others with the same lies so that you make more money off of them. I felt like I was treated like cattle, once they got me in there and they got my leads through their so called warm calling they forgot all about me and didn't even care to train me at all. Everyone I started with felt the same, everyone that came after felt the same, and now there are just the 12 top people left from my beginning to my end there because every left.
Advice to Senior Management
I'm not going to say how I really feel here becaues I think in my cons I have said it all. They are a bunch of early 20s money hungry blood suckers and really need to pay more attention to their people skills, not just the money in their bank accounts.
Pros
Flexible Hour
Unlimited Income
Can get paid every day the bank is open
Advancement for those who strive for it
Fortune 500 Company
Ethisphere Leader 3 Years Running
Fortune List of Top Companies
Structured Training
Cons
This is not a job for everyone. Self motivation and drive is a must. If you don't have the self motivation to get up in the morning this is not for you. You are an "independent contractor". Independent being the key word, you are not a W2 employee, therefore you must work for your income.
Pros
Flexible schedule is possible with Aflac. All in all I would say that was the only positive thing about Aflac.
Cons
Everything! Straight commission with no set territories and too many "sales people". It is a very frustrating business and there is a chance you will walk out having spent more than you earned.
Advice to Senior Management
Please find a new business structure. Aflac has great products but there are too many sales people calling on the same prospects.
