Pros
Freedom to work when you want. Training. Commission. You get what you put in and not a bit more, but you have to work smart and sometimes get lucky. If you don't sell you don't eat. Don't Listen to other people Aflac is not a scam company that you pay to work for but it has a lot of start up costs as you are building your own business. This could be a great opportunity for someone that has not been to college but is hard working and motivated and wants a college graduates salary (after 3-5 years).
Cons
You have to pay for your own license no base pay. You need at least a years worth of savings probably 2. This is because there is no car allowance for gas or maintenance. There is also a higher tax for SS and Medicare 15.3% because you are a 1099 worker and not a W-2 worker. Also there are no benefits so you have to pay for those out of pocket. They say I can make $50,000 my 2nd year but you are taxed more and have car costs, retirement savings, and benefits that you have to provide. So when you do the math $50,000 seems a lot closer to $30,000 at a salaried job that offers health insurance and 401k matching.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer a base pay or draw for the first year at least. Then I would be more willing to stay with Aflac. I am going to leave at my first opportunity.

I was marginally employed when I contracted with Aflac. It has been great for my resume and I have managed to make some money. I will absolutely try to keep my contract with the Company while working another job.
The people are really nice, the programs are something you can believe in and once you settle in with the company you can set your own schedule. Once you know what You're doing the money is pretty easy too.
Cons
Training and equipment. State offices provide training which is excellent. However, the training provided by local offices lacks substance and the expectation has been that new agents do nearly all of their training at home, without much guidance. This has felt unsupportive to myself and many agents I was hired with.
Equipment. Aflac has you use their own laptops for presentations and enrollments and they finance one for you when you've made enough money. However, until that point you need to get one form either a supervisor or another agent, which has been a real problem in my office. In addition what laptops are available, have commonly been in disrepair or dysfunctional so I have wasted a lot of time fixing equipment that isn't mine so that I can do my job.
Advice to Senior Management
IT services need to be available at the State offices. Your agents know how to sell insurance and provide customer service but very few know anything about computers.
Basic problems such as inability to log on to the internet shouldn't be hampering or preventing anyone from doing their job and it really discourages new agents.

great training,support,marketing materials provided, great products, if your not shy about asking businesses for a fifteen minute appointment youll do well.

The work schedule is flexible since you create it. Great work life balance in return. Being determined and having great sales skills can pay off in the long run.
Cons
Sales can be slow at beginning so you should already be finacially stable before starting. The leads are disappointing and the training is weak.

Strengthen the training program. Be more creative and innovative with leads.
Pros
AFLAC has a great training program and great products to offer. The agents and upper management are friendly and helpful and you can feel that you are encouraged to succeed.
Cons
You have to find your own leads and with the job being 100% commission, it can be hard to survive financially until you start building up your business.

Most of the managers are very supportive and understanding and want to help you to succeed.

They reward you with stock eventually.
Cons
100% commission. No benefits. No discounts for associates on their own products. You pay for everything needed to do your job except sales brochures.
Definitely and "old boys network". Women do the grunt work and men take the credit and promote their cronies.
Lots of politics and lying and underhanded dealing.

Look at your sales force as people that you want to invest in and not as disposable.

In order to work at Aflac it s extremely important to be self motivated and you also have to cold call intially.

Management should be more encouraging toward employees to get the new employees to be more comfortable with making their cold calls.
