    Pros

Managers and those higher up than you are helpful and nice. They are looking to have you grow as a professional and learn first hand under their direction.

    Cons

There are no real cons to this position other than being paid commission. Though this is a personal opinion of mine, it is understandable why commission is so popular in the insurance industry.

    Pros

Good work life balance. If you had an appointment you were able to make up the time. Management was fine with that. Culture was good. Hours were good.

    Cons

Not easy to move around the company - not even for people who had worked with the company for 10 years. Pay was terrible. Training was ok.

    Advice to Management

Look around and see what talents your employees have. They might actually be very talented and could help you if you just spoke with them every once in awhile.

    Pros

Good Product, people who have it are happy with it. the people who were not happy were upset because of poor customer service and followup on claims. the process is much easier now with online access and one day pay.

    Cons

Hard to sign people up. Get used to hearing "no". Many hours with no pay. The little bit i did make in 3 months was from signing people up on pre-existing accounts my district manager was handling.

    Advice to Management

Team new employees up with top performers and not with employees who are struggling to get anything done. Frustrating working with people who have little to no drive.

    Pros

Well known brand, excellent training and support provided to new agents, and good supplemental insurance products.

    Cons

Must do a VERY high volume of sales to make any money. My manager told me the only reason she made it through the first year is because her husband worked full-time and supported the family -- this was confided to me AFTER I worked my rear off for several months and was frustrated because despite reaching markers such as the fast start bonus, I wasn't making enough to pay my bills. She told me new agents will not make enough to support themselves and either need spouses to pay the bills or another job during the first year. That would have been a good thing to know before I agreed to be a full-time agent. I lost money, time and morale during those months as a result.

    Advice to Management

More transparency on what is reasonable to expect in terms of income for new agents is a must.

    Pros

A lot of independence with potential to make a lot of money. The organization itself is very rewarding to employees who do well.

    Cons

My office used very shady sales tactics. I felt like I was selling something people did not actually need. Hours could be long.

    Advice to Management

Be upfront with your employees about the pay structure and use morally conscious sales techniques that do not involve lying to a possible client.
