I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Work with awesome engineers and chemists - who need Wikipedia when you have people who know what they are talking about and are happy to help you understand. You have a lot of flexibility in solving problems, and if you see someone working on a problem that interests you then "welcome to the team". Management is aware of the 'graying' of the employees and continues to promote college hires. Agilent is one of the dwindling number of employers that still offers a retirement plan in addition to the 401K.

    Cons

You are responsible for your own development plan, not your manager. Can be good or bad - good if you like challenges and have initiative, bad if you want someone to tell you what to do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bill and Dave practiced "management by walking around" to get first-hand knowledge on what was going on. Agilent management does great at that for the first couple levels of management, but higher levels need to get out more.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Company successful in what it makes. Flex hours, on site fitness center, tennis courts, volleyball courts, fitness track are all pluses.

    Cons

Decreasing benefits. Poor medical insurance. Stagnant wages. Profit sharing virtually eliminated. Every year the benefits seem to get worse. Training of employees almost non-existent. Too many managers and not enough people actually doing the work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider increasing the salary scale for long term employees. Consider promoting senior professionals to senior level positions with different wage scales. Improve training. Eliminate the unfair and annoying practice of different profit sharing for different people.

    Pros

GOOD people doing the work. They are dedicated and VERY hard working. It is easy to have them as close friends

    Cons

Management - too many layers without clear sight of it's employees. Politics is bad if you get in the way. I had false charges placed by a manager I never met

    Pros

Very consistent in terms of hiring people with good attitudes. You will work with very smart people and learn a ton ! They believe that a happy employee will perform well ...... and they are right !

    Cons

    There are limited growth opportunities.

    Pros

    Flexible work hours, vacation schedules

    Cons

As an Agilent manager, it is frustrating not being able to reward strong employees. Handcuffed, year after yr. resulting in poor attitudes, diminished performance. Too many talented people leave for more rewarding jobs. Constantly training new individuals, only for them to leave after a couple of yrs. Long term employees are leaving at an alarming rate, taking with them a wealth of knowledge. Clear separation of mangers and employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To understand that the employee is their greatest asset and should be treated on par with their customers. You take care of your employees they will take care of you. The formula for success does not get any simpler. That is not the case here.

Agilent Technologies- a good place to work, but struggles a bit to adjust with the volatile market.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Overall a good company with a nice working atmosphere and facilities, knowledgable experienced employees for most part. Flex hours allow for a nice work/life balance, pension and 401K, profit sharing, and reduced medical benefits.

    Cons

Pay not the greatest, but comparable. Upper management runs the business based on politics for shareholders, not customers or employees. Gross mismanagement at the upper level with failed acquisitions/outsourcing and corporate greed. Too much emphasis on bean counting and not enough on quality, customer satisfaction, or employee retention. Top share of Life Science marketplace is in jeopardy due to these poor policies and decisions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Now that the 'split' is over, turn the focus from cost reductions back to quality, and customer/employee satisfaction. Do more research or investigate fully before any future acquisitions. Profit sharing has been in the toilet since the latest mergers, and wages have been stagnant for some time, but CEO's and boardmembers continue to enjoy ridiculous salaries and bonuses.

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Growth is due both to acquisition and organic growth. Everyone will agree that it is the individuals that make working together the best. There is solid history from HP and Agilent both that contribute to a deep corporate memory. We really do make the best in the industry.

    Cons

Not to say there haven't been downsizing and early retirement programs in the past.
While the benefits are reported as being "among the leaders", it is not Lake Woebegon, and it seems like many of the best benefits are eroding. The gap between rich and poor in society is reflected in bonus pay and salary between management and individual contributors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Outsourcing corporate services leads to poor service and distributes inefficiency making up the difference among all the workers.

    Cons

Use too much Agencies companies that are not professional. Some departments they don't hire someone unless is by one of those agencies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Use less Agencies companies
