I have been working at Agilex Technologies full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

They have interesting problems and applications. The work is classified so it's difficult to discuss it outside the people you work with. There are smart people in the office and it is a very casual environment. The new office is very nice and the fact that it is a smaller company <1000 employees allows room for you to make your own path rather than follow a company defined path. There are plenty of opportunities to meet upper management as well.

    Cons

There isn't enough work for the people who are hired in the office. They try to fill the contract with bodies so that they can make more money. The people are smart but the work doesn't meet their potential. The management is also not very transparent about contract statuses. One day you hear something about contracts in a pipeline, the next day it's gone. They also have an interesting relationship with the client in that the products/solutions built have already been paid for by the client but not necessarily used by the client. Makes you somewhat useless. They also might lie about salary expectation. If you go to negotiate, aim high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to win more contracts and put your employees first. The life of the company right now is dependent on the happiness of the employees. There will be a breaking point where a lot of people is going to drop out on you.

    Pros

Great Pay (yet usually temporary), decent work-life balance

    Cons

Very disjointed borderline bait/switch operation. The biggest problem is that they will say ANYTHING to hire you. They will throw lots of money at you and tell you what you want to hear. However, when you get on board you find you are in a completely different situation then what was represented. You will find that many of their contracts are short term and up for renewal every 6 months. This means you are constantly worried that you will be cut or "redeployed" to another project in another city you don't want to work in or didn't originally sign up for to do. You are almost seen as just a shell that fills a seat and makes the company money. You are not an individual with personal and professional goals you are an ATM that sits at a desk.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep staff in tune with the direction of the projects they are on. You should have a roadmap that extends beyond 6 months and let your staff know where they are going and why. Invest in us and we will ride with you to the end. Be completely candid and honest when bringing people onboard about what the job is like and what the entire scope of the project entails.

I have been working at Agilex Technologies full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Agilex excels at winning work. They have an extremely strong and well connected sales staff, and consequently have a good selection of interesting projects that they frequently prime. Because of their larger size and growth their compensation can be above average. The annual holiday party is fun, and they have nice little perks like a foosball table at HQ, gift basket at the holidays, and cookies on your birthday (depending on your sector). Above all they have some very talented and very nice people to work with.

    Cons

There is no training policy, training budget, or software budget. The 401(k) policy is pathetic. The healthcare is below average. Their business practices are consistently shady (perhaps why they excel at winning work).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop talking about a training policy (it has supposedly been imminent for years) and do it now.

I have been working at Agilex Technologies full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Technical expertise of many developers is great. Met some great folks (who are unfortunately very unhappy). Free coffee.

    Cons

Management is terrible and everyone should stay far away. Especially non-technical micromanagers. Many colleagues were blatantly lied to in their interview about the position description - they just wanted to fill seats. There is a white-only club when it comes to the managers and promoting from within. They all have each others backs and there is no place to complain and be heard without risk of your job. This place is like high school with drama and cliques. Very unprofessional in how negatively the managers speak about the clients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop micromanaging. Encourage training growth and treat people fairly.

I have been working at Agilex Technologies full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I have worked with some of the brightest people in their fields of expertise, however the employee dis-satisfaction is directly proportional to employee talent.

    Cons

Middle management is about as idiotic as upper management is oblivious. This company screams 'beltway bandit'. I have never worked at a place where delivery is so far down the totem pole over sales.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The world is a small and the world of government consulting is even smaller.

I have been working at Agilex Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good people to work with, flexible schedule, good health care benefits. Great place to start your development career. Exposure to many different projects.

    Cons

If you like punching the clock this is the place for you. No opportunity for training because if it is not billable to the customer forget it. Growing pains of hiring inexperienced employees. "Managers" have no authority so be prepared. Not a consistent 401k match. Too long to vest what they do decided to match each year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Time for a real 401(k). Invest in your employees and share the vision. Happy customers and plenty of work yet no bonus and marginal pay raise.

I have been working at Agilex Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Solutions oriented culture, many opportunities for growth and advancement based on individual contributions and performance. While the company appears to be hiring in fairly high numbers, they manage to maintain a focus on their core competencies and not just staffing projects.

    Cons

With obvious plans for aggressive growth, company leaders need to be careful not become another "Beltway bandit" and continue to focus on quality, mission solutions and not just "butts in seats." Employee benefits are marginally competitive and could use updating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to address how much the "employee owned company" is touted as there is no clear path to equity. Focus on maintaining the small company culture that has served them so well to-date. Break down the barriers between the 4 sectors and work more as a integrated team.

I worked at Agilex Technologies full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The company's healthcare sector, its' largest sector, is firing on all cylinders for the most part. Good health care benefits, agile practitioners trying to educate the customer on the agile process, free food, knowledge sharing across teams, strong customer-client relationships, opportunities to learn mobile development, and a decent work-life balance.

    Cons

Outside of healthcare, company management is a disaster. Management does not know how to manage, or even understand the agile process they hype so much about. The result is predictable to anyone but management: Life becomes a Dilbert cartoon for employees. Management, adding injury to insult, will then throw their "rock stars" under the bus in order to avoid blame by upper management and the customer. Overtime is common, and management views wanting a normal 40 hour work/life balance (or paid overtime) as a bad thing. They truly make you feel like you're a "human resource" to be spent, and not a person. Mobile developers leave the company quickly, because while there are mobile opportunities, they're often short lived contracts that last about a year, tops.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire technical managers. Your non-technical managers manage by "gut", and not "numbers", and in a world where just about everything can be measured, numbers should be king. Non-technical managers do not seem to understand how their management style feeds problems, or creates a pattern of common problems, that should often be avoided. Management's performance goals should be in line with their teams, and not just about winning contracts and keeping account holders happy. Managers shouldn't be succeeding when teams are struggling.

    Pros

Pockets of talented folks working for the company

    Cons

Upper management could care a less about their people - they only want to exit (get acquired) to make their $millions as quickly as possible

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on building a true business and treat your employees with respect. You're running a shell of a business and it's obvious to your employees and to the market.

    I worked at Agilex Technologies

    Pros

Good pay, benefits, work environment, and the opportunity to learn new software and data processing philosophies are readily accessible.

    Cons

Management tends to over populate a project and when that project looks like it will be reduced in scope by the customer or, at the customer's request, modified to take another track, they cut the personnel on the project rather than attempt to relocate them somewhere else within the organization or assist them with finding a position with another organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Probably won't do any good... they drive their big SUV's, BMW's, Mercedes, and Bentley's and they like it. A hire is only good to them as long as that hire keeps them in luxury.
