A great shop to work in due to: friendly co-workers, professional managers, all in a well equipped shop.

    Pros

Possible flexible schedules, frequent branch BBQ's, great/friendly work atmosphere. Management is easily approachable/easy to get ahold of. In most cases they provide employees a company work cell phone.

    Cons

Few cons exist. However, they tend to lack in the promotions. Their employee healthcare options are not that good. Sometimes, you will have to work for hours to complete an order for it only to be cancelled by the customer (however, this is just the nature of the rental business).

    Advice to Management

Honestly, management does a decent job for this company. They step in when needed. They are not too overbearing. Don Ahern is a great person, have personally met him.

    Pros

Freedom in the field, expense account

    Cons

No support from management, equipment in poor condition and no new equipment coming. want to grow market by painting the old equipment to fool the customer. Overall operations are poor and need major overhauling

    Advice to Management

New equipment and stronger management at branch levels

    Pros

Pays my monthly bills. Don Ahern really cares about his employees.

    Cons

No accountability at all. Huge bonuses to long-term employees. $0.35 annual increases to field staff with years of service. One mistake = no increase. Work distribution is completely off.

    Advice to Management

Recognize and grow your people that come to work, focus and have dedication to your company. Your success is driven by these individuals.

    Pros

    - Plenty of good, patient, hard working people in the company who can make working at the company really fun
    - Longevity and company loyalty are highly valued by management
    - Most employees are hired for one particular job but end up doing several, meaning you get a lot of experience in a lot of different departments.

    Cons

    - Don't expect to get a raise after a year. Company management doesn't believe in cost of living increases or inflation, so unless you advocate hard yourself for a raise, and can justify it with an increase in responsibilities, chances are your one year review will come and go with no action.
    - Company is very last minute in everything that it does so if you are salaried, you can frequently expect to be on your way out the door but be called back in for a last minute project that will take up several more hours of your time
    - An obvious bias in management attitudes towards individuals with higher education degrees

    Advice to Management

    - Value the employees lower down on the totem pole. Managers and sales reps are treated extremely well while those working in service and operations are often ignored for perks, promotions and salary increases
    - Do not be intimidated by surrounding yourselves with good, educated people. They are not out to take advantage of you but actually would like to help
    - Take employee reviews and salary increases seriously as opposed to ignoring them or delaying the discussions for months

    Pros

At this point in time, with the amount of experience I have had with this company, none immediately come to mind.

    Cons

Unless you're buddy-buddy with upper management you'll go nowhere. Nepotism is standard practice. The HR handbook you receive is only to be used against you and never to your benefit as an employee.

Benefits are a dismal. There is NO PTO ( unless you're salary and then you get paid whether you're there or not) no sick leave of any kind.

Morale is in the tank and management ignores it. Yearly reviews as outlined in the employee handbook? No, they don't follow their own guidelines.

Vacation pay for hourly employees occurs on your date of hire every year. Why? They know you won't be able to hold onto it and, therefor, can't take a vacation.

Work / Life Balance? Only if your work IS your life. Nothing has changed in the 5+ years I've been there.

They could do so much better, but simply don't seem interested.

    Advice to Management

There is a reason the turnover rate is so high, but you still continue to ignore the root issues. Do away with the employee handbook unless you're going to hold everyone accountable to it.

    Pros

There are not any but if you are of average intelligence and happen to be in a room with middle and upper management you are most likely the smartest person in the room. If you are a YES man you will do fine. They do treat there employees to a BBQ once a month!!! Makes it all worth it!!!

    Cons

The cheap, old and run down company vehicles. The oldest fleet in the industry with bosses that demand an outrageous rate for their freshly painted piece of junk run down equipment. Small crews that are over worked and under paid. Having to deal with the idiots in Vegas.

    Advice to Management

    Sell the company and retire

    Cons

Management is not serious. OT is mandatory (whenever they want you to stay). Salary increasing are a lie.

    Pros

You are always just a phone call away from the Aherns. They are available to hear your challenges and in most cases are able to resolve them. We are in a growth cycle so the opportunities are endless. It is awesome to see the changes happening with the Company. Don and Evan are working really hard to ensure the long term viability of the Companies and are open to ideas and suggestions.

    Cons

Insurance benefits are a challenge. They are expensive and a little confusing. I've had success in speaking with the hr department and feel better knowing there are ways to make them work for me.

    Advice to Management

You are hiring a lot of senior management people coming from the big corporates who seem determined to turn this company into one of them. They weren't successful there so why do we insist on bringing them and their screwed up values to Ahern. Senior management with the exception of the newer BIG Corporates is awesome.
