    I worked at Air Energi

Less glamorous Than most Houston recruitment firms

I have been working at Air Energi full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good pay structure with solid commission structure. Some of the best co-workers I have ever worked with. They said all the right things to get you on board. Some great clients and the contractors are taken care of.

    Cons

Turn and burn agency with a cutthroat culture where about half the crew is more than willing to stab you in the back. Managers lie to your face then throw you under the bus to make themselves look good. Contractors are treated better than the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do what you promise, the talk about the Air Energi way is not what is practiced. Treat employees like human beings not disposable diapers. For a flat management structure there are too many middle manager that are pure "Yes" men/women.

I worked at Air Energi full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Compensation is competitive in the market
    Vacation\PTO time competitive
    Office in a good location
    Friendly faces in the office
    Great list of exsisting clients

    Cons

Management styles are all over the place
Provided with a computer that may or may not be functional, phone and place to sit. Not the environment you would expect from a 30 year old company
Constant closed door meetings, creating a lack of trust between management and staff
Sink or swim approach to recruiters - training provided, but it is rushed and feels as if you are inconveniencing the managers
Bad reputation with some firms, with no remorse or concern for feedback
No real communication between business development and recruiters - a lot of client overlap and contact that seemed unnecessary
Bonus scheme not obtainable and not competitive in the market
Overall goals set for recruiters and for the whole of the company are not realistic

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are some solid people employed within this organization who have a great outlook on what Air Energi could become. Listen to them - let them be the voice of the company. Set realistic goals and obtainable yearly budgets, otherwise the smaller wins will be lost to the constant concern of productivity. Appreciate your staff and try better to create a more positive work\life balance - for everyone, not just the managers. This job should be about working smart, not working until you are burned out. You will continue to have high turnover and lose good employees if you don't make necessary changes soon. Treat your clients better, you only get one chance to make a good impression. Take it to heart when they take time to provide feedback on their experience, and do something to let them know you care and appreciate their concerns. This market does not have endless companies, burning bridges will get you exactly nowhere. Reputation and repeat business should mean everything.

I worked at Air Energi as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Provide detailed information regarding the contract with the company.

    Cons

As a contractor in an oil and gas company via Air Energi, it is difficult to grow professionally. I wanted to find other contract work in the oil and gas field and discussed with Air Energi my concern and it took about a month for them to respond back with potential offers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Didn't really interface with upper management.

I worked at Air Energi full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Their commission scheme is good for recruiters. They have a presence worldwide and good name recognition. Long history means that there is a lot of institutional knowledge to take advantage of. There are some exceptional people there.

    Cons

Far too many middle managers, many of whom have been very effective recruiters and team leaders but then promoted out of those roles and into positions as full-time spreadsheet managers. The obsession with forecasting, driven by the VC owners, occupies far too much of their time and that of their teams.

For too many people the way to progress up the ladder (and earn a stake in the company) is to stop producing value directly and become a bureaucrat. Some of them are necessary but the balance has shifted too far. This impacts the more junior staff as they emulate that and aspire to it.

The stated "Core Values" are trumpeted loudly and then abandoned wherever it's deemed necessary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have too many layers between you and a true picture of what is happening at your company. The reports and forecasts that you get have been passed through multiple filters of bias and self-interest. You have too many people scrapping with their colleagues for credit rather than looking outward at how they can improve the growth of the company.

    Pros

    Great work environment

    Excellent market reputation

    Good internal promotion policy

Not your normal churn and burn
    recruitment company

    Strong client list

    Great team spirit

    Cons

Account Managers need to push back on clients more and engage properly with the recruitment team

    Set realistic company targets

Job qualification within account Management must improve

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great company to work for, couldn't recommend enough, know their market like no other.

Internal promotions give me realistic expectations of what can be achieved in the company.

Recruiters are given time to prove themselves rather than being pushed out of the door in 2 months for not billing.

Account Management model must change, the 'hands off our clients' approach doesn't work in a competitive market.

    Rapid Growth

I have been working at Air Energi

    Pros

Great people with a real can do attitude. Excellent Client relationships encompassing most of the key players in the Oil and Gas industry. Their Global Mobility capabilities are second to none. Probably not as well know as they should be for consultancy, as their knowledge of the market, understanding of projects and global mobility capabilities are what really set them apart in the Oil and Gas Manpower sector.

    Cons

They have grown very quickly over the last few years, and processes and procures have had to evolve at quite a speed to meet the needs of rapid growth. This can be a challenge for those that don't embrace change. Knowledge transfer across the Group is catching up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The market is becoming increasingly competative, more so now than ever. Continue to invest in people development as well as business development and ensure employees understand the strategic direction of the business. Focus on Client relationships and set challenging, but realistic budgets.

I have been working at Air Energi full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good office culture. Not your traditional recruitment environment, and you are trusted to get on with your own work and treat your desk as your own business and responsibility. Achievements are rewarded. Commission is very achievable and is one of the best for the market in my opinion.
Great reputation within the marketplace resulting in good relationships with some clients which create the core business.
Time is given to new recruits to settle in and get up to speed, much more time allowed compared to other recruitment companies. Don't get me wrong, its not all sunshine and rainbows. You must achieve and show progression and hard work to get ahead in this business, it is still recruitment after all.
There are plenty of opportunities to grow with this company, and with a large Global footprint potential to move abroad as many have done from the UK office.

    Cons

Working on PSLs with many other agencies and having to comply by the clients rules and regulations for the good of the account can become very frustrating. Some simple recruitment practices have to go out the window to avoid "upsetting" clients. The use of aggressive recruitment practices are required in such a competitive market, yet consultants are constantly being asked to sit and wait for feedback on CVs or interviews.
It takes a while for anything to happen within this company. Whilst I appreciate that decisions are made high up and some senior members of staff need to be consulted, it is quite frustrating to request that something happen and approval be given, only for the execution to be weeks, sometimes months in the future.
The training is minimal within Air Energi, there is an element of "you are a recruiter, you should know what to do" but it seems that training of recruitment techniques, and sometimes the market is neglected for a "find out as you go" attitude. This is mainly because Air Energi tends to take on experienced recruiters who should be capable of finding their own way, but more assistance is required moving forward.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let recruiters be recruiters. Loosen the reigns a little and appreciate that in this business and marketplace, client loyalty is minimal anyway. Let us sell to clients rather than comply by their rules.
Implement quarterly training schedules for recruitment technique refreshers and market training.
Ensure there are strict inductions made for new recruits giving them important market information and specific training on their discipline.

    Pros

Company has name for itself in oil and gas sector. In a good way. Although deliver of roles is poor

    Cons

    No training
    No induction
    Sink or swim
    No support
Managers and vp have no knowledge either of managing or how to do recruitment.
More interested in going out for lunches
    No flexibility

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Honestly listen to your staff. It is a hopeless place and will not recognise outstanding performance.

I have been working at Air Energi full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

They have a good client list and have a big foot print into some big clients- not as many as they would lead you to believe

    Cons

The management are untalented and don't listen to staff, everyone is always moaning and no one ever seems to earn much commission. Management are rude and don't value or listen to staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

fire some managers- too many chefs in one kitchen- dont let managers treat employees like crap! sort out commissions etc and stop moving the goal posts
