I have been working at Air National Guard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Solid leadership, mission focused, trips and deployments, educational benefits, healthcare. You get the experience employers want whether you stay through retirement or stay for 4 - 6 years. Being stationed at home near your family and friends is a huge plus.

    Cons

The deployments can be trying on families, the family support isn't as proactive as I feel it should be while you're deployed. You can make more money other places and there are always new requirements for promotion added in, or so it seems.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the mission first, then your people. Be courageous in your decision making and leadership, don't play politics. Ensure everyone is given equal opportunities - it's up to them to capitalize on them.

I have been working at Air National Guard part-time

    Pros

The Air National Guard is very relaxed and family like. I've served 7 years on active duty and I never imagined that serving in the guard would be so good. They pay for your school and switching career fields is easy.

    Cons

Only down side is that it's not a full time job and it isn't easy getting full time jobs. They are competitive and very limited.

    Advice to Management

Create more full time opportunities for the folks in the Guard. I really enjoy serving in the guard but I miss active duty so if I were able to work full time for the guard then it would be the best of both worlds.
