I worked at Air National Guard

    Pros

    Citizen soldier
Great option if transitioning from Active Duty
    Benefits for Traditional Guardsman
    Opportunities for Active Duty orders

    Cons

Hard to get AGR orders for certain career fields
    AGR hires are from within
Training and TDY opportunities scarce for certain career fields

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better training and time with subordinates even if they are 'weekend warriors'. It is still a commitment that is important to the airman so take the time to help them hone their AFSC.

I have been working at Air National Guard part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

As a guardsman, you only have to work on base one weekend a month. Therefore, you can have a civilian job and/or be a student without a problem. There are so many career fields to choose from. You get all the training necessary, which can also be used in your civilian life. Your school is paid for. You get so many benefits for you and your family. The places you travel to are amazing. You get to meet so many people. The pros are many; really.

    Cons

You do get moved around quite a bit, which can be tough if you have family. After a certain rank or time of service, it does get a bit hard to progress in your military career due to the limited positions available.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create more positions to increase chances of career progression.

I worked at Air National Guard

    Pros

Assistance with school expenses, flexible schedule (one weekend a month, two weeks a year), ability to work additional days, ability to become a full-time service member and gain benefits similar to that of an active duty service member, numerous perks and benefits as a service member, can move to any state and more than likely find the same or similar position, wearing the service uniform as a proud member, the ability to travel to different places all over the world.

    Cons

Early hours ( my own personal issue), commitment to a short or long term contract, training - some training sessions can be hard to come by and I believe some training can be inadequate. Overall, most issues are able to be addressed so they would not be of any true concern.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would consider having trainers who are properly qualified to train.

I have been working at Air National Guard as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Learning a new job that pertains to the US military, college benefits.

    Cons

Sometimes you want to travel and explore different opportunities but are limited to doing so, due to state money, training, or other reasons...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sometimes could be more organized. Things can tend to move very slowly in the military.
