I have been working at Air Products

    Pros

Flexibility in working hours, great coworkers and employees, good company values (volunteering in the community)

    Cons

Leadership is extremely reluctant to change anything. The culture is very risk averse. There's always a huge effort focused on cost savings and risk, which is understandable, but it gets taken to extremes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take more risks, be open to change.

I have been working at Air Products full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Knowledge and application of intelligence is highly valued.
A lot of resources available for those in R&D/Applications Development and that can make the job very rewarding and fun.
Compensation is high average for my professional area.

    Cons

New CEO has made it clear that Materials (my own division) is not a priority in terms of resources or importance.
Heavy layoffs have begun and continue.
Despite talking a good game, the things that have been promised by upper management in terms of changing corporate culture to something more nimble and responsive to the market has failed to materialize. What has materialized is a series of demoralizing decisions such as cutting headcount and bonuses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider that employees are shareholders, too. For all the talk of how the shareholders are the only ones that matter, it seems to be lost that all of us own stock, too, and are affected significantly more than the people looking for their dividend payout.

I worked at Air Products as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

teammates are nice and helpful. Allentown is a good city. The lunch is good. There is a gym. There are many shops around the company.

    Cons

There is no commuter going to the company. The weather is a bit hot in the summer. The working hour is very rigid.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more training opportunities to the fresh intern. Add more interactions between employee and interns. Make the working hour more flexible.

A formerly great company in a major restructuring causing poor morale and a significant loss of talent.

I have been working at Air Products full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent market position in Industrial Gases and Materials Technologies. Plenty of growth and career potential in the long term, once we get through the very difficult restructuring. CEO is setting high standards for all groups.

    Cons

Very weak leadership below CEO. Terrible morale. Leadership is very political with strong good-old-boy network still in place. Change management on the restructuring could not be worse. Inadequate variable compensation based on the excellent performance of our division. CEO says the right things to win the hearts and minds of the employees, but actions are the opposite.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your words say employees are your most important assets. Your actions are inconsistent with your words. You are going to lose your most valuable employees unless you act quickly to win people back.

I have been working at Air Products

    Pros

Good people, smart people work here. Strong focus on those with engineering backgrounds. Area has a reasonable cost of living and good schools.

    Cons

Bureaucracy limits speed of decision making. Poor implementation of reorganization will leave many unhappy and strong performers will leave. Limited promotion potential for women.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward equal work with equal pay/opportunity. Do not expect all to uproot lives for reorg when not given promised promotions in past- people can work elsewhere!

I have been working at Air Products full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

More than a few areas to work in from engineering, sales, business developement.

    Cons

The company has very few managers that understand how to work with the people that pay the bills(the customer). It is a "me based culture" and working in silo's is still going to be the norm not the exception.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to talk to some of the people that are being downsized to get their input.
