I've had many opportunities to try new things, change departments and grow my career.

    Chemical Engineer (Current Employee)
    London, England (UK)

ProsGreat culture, belief in working together towards a common goal and developing people. Most managers have an open door policy, and no matter how senior they are you can ask them anything. Great safety culture and non-retaliation policies for employees who speak out about problems.

ConsThe company can be somewhat risk averse and slow to try new things. Also the IT department was dismantled and outsourced some time ago and is now a complete mess. Their restrictions get in the way of work quite often.

Advice to Senior ManagementFix the company's IT policy so it encourages innovation instead of hindering it. Stop treating Continuous Improvement like a religion. It is not the only way to grow a company, innovation is important too.

Bot without problems but a great place and brilliant people.

    Procurement (Current Employee)
    Hersham, England (UK)

    ProsFriendly 'one team' culture
    Blame kept to a minimum
    Clever clever people!
    Great middle management
If it's a good idea they will normally go for it (innovation)
    People work very hard.

ConsDirectors are very political and conniving in total contrast to everybody below them which is very strange indeed, most really aren't to be trusted in afraid.

    Being squeezed by competition

Advice to Senior ManagementTry (somehow) to have those above senior manager level work in the same consistent open manner that those below them do.

Does not reward for good work. Career progression in the UK is sluggish

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsFlexibility is the only good thing which the company offers .You can broaden you skills and experience by working in different areas but it will be valued more outside the company.

ConsPoor leadership, senior managers are not leaders. Promotions are a drag. Lateral career progress and no vertical migration. Lack of careee opportunities especially in UK. Salary and job grade is based on if you have a option outside.Best way to get a grade increase is to get an offer from outside not through good work .

Advice to Senior ManagementMotivate and engage your employees to increase productivity. Wake up its about time.

    Positive experience

    Engineer (Current Employee)
    London, England (UK)

ProsExcellent culture supporting individuals and teams. Excellent life-work balance in a relaxed and professional environment. Good career development opportunities.

ConsI struggle to think of a real negative to post about this company, perhaps the coffee machine should have been free?

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work, especially the excellent culture. It is refreshing to be a part of an international company that still cares about the individual.

    Get your act together!

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsGood, engaged and professional people.

ConsDis-functional culture torn between central absolutism and demanded local ownership (iasked to be "entrepreneurs" without being authorized to make any decision outside of extraneous procedures).

Advice to Senior ManagementGet out of the Jones-Huck-McGlade "tunnel", get your act together on what you want this company to be (Chemicals ? no chemicals ? Homecare ? no homecare ?) and stop changing your mind every other year.

All things being equal, a pretty good company to be a part of

    Administrative Assistant (Current Employee)

ProsLovely people, good environment, fair salary, nice working conditions, gym on site, great staff restaurant, average staff cafe, large car park

ConsHas had to adopt a "low cost" policy so some of the things that made it a superior company to work for have had to go for the time being, i.e. travel has to be low cost, expenses are watched very carefully

    Broad range of experience

    Business Development Manager (Current Employee)
    London, England (UK)

ProsThe people. The flexibility to working. Range of opportunity.

ConsAP used to look after their people but as markets have been squeezed its more about the money and less about the people. AP no longer says its "the best company to work for".

Advice to Senior ManagementLook after your people and they will look after the company.

    The way forward!

    Engineering (Current Employee)
    Hersham, England (UK)

ProsPersonally suitable in terms of location for commuting, on site parking, not worked overly hard, flex in working times

ConsAdvancement is limited if one is not in the "Air Products" mould, people taking credit for the work and ideas of others is the norm (and expected?). Essential that one emulates the cockrell on a dung heap - crowing to attract attention - "increasing ones profile" in AP speak. There is only one point of view and how things are done and that is the "Air Products WAY"!

Advice to Senior Management"Perception is reality" is not the best way of viewing employee contributions. Hogwash and bull-poo is more the order of the day than statements of substance, high time to change. Leadership is weak as most "leaders" are more focussed on self advancement even if it is at the cost of the organisation or subordinates.
