I have been working at Air Products full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great people everyone up to lower middle management seem to be bothered about their people
    Good working conditions
Excellent opportunities to travel (dependent on role)
Flexible if you need to work from home on occasion
A brand new CEO not from the best mates club that used to be the way to the top....hopefully in for a great shake up

    Cons

at the moment still too slow in making decisions has the mentality of a small engineering firm
    no consistency of plant build
Managers will always pass the blame to others for their failings
different departments are in silo's ,managers try to kingdom build a lot of us and them
too busy with CI,non productive meetings , low cost sourcing
Too many levels of process before you get to an end result
    Too many levels of management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shed some management levels theres too many taking a very very good salary for doing not a lot, empower the people who actually have the best intentions for the company they work for.
You have plenty of people who achieve and exceed their targets and KPI's but are overlooked in favour of CDP's and the best mates club.
Engineers do not make the best managers
break away from Global and aim at regional representation, too US concentric with no idea on regional differences
All the best to the new CEO already within the ranks there is positivity and this is only a month into his new position, probably not so in the upper management though

I have been working at Air Products full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great people, friendly intelligent, everyone will listen to your point of view. People work hard but woik life balance is still respected.

    Cons

Slow to make decisions, power is at the top, people seem to be under pressure too. America makes the decisions, this leaves local regions frustrated. Has a new CEO now so things might change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let people who want to make changes do them. Budgets are controlled at a high level meaning people who have great ideas cant ge tthe resources they need to make change

I have been working at Air Products full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great culture, belief in working together towards a common goal and developing people. Most managers have an open door policy, and no matter how senior they are you can ask them anything. Great safety culture and non-retaliation policies for employees who speak out about problems.

    Cons

The company can be somewhat risk averse and slow to try new things. Also the IT department was dismantled and outsourced some time ago and is now a complete mess. Their restrictions get in the way of work quite often.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix the company's IT policy so it encourages innovation instead of hindering it. Stop treating Continuous Improvement like a religion. It is not the only way to grow a company, innovation is important too.

I have been working at Air Products full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Friendly 'one team' culture
    Blame kept to a minimum
    Clever clever people!
    Great middle management
If it's a good idea they will normally go for it (innovation)
    People work very hard.

    Cons

Directors are very political and conniving in total contrast to everybody below them which is very strange indeed, most really aren't to be trusted in afraid.

    Being squeezed by competition

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try (somehow) to have those above senior manager level work in the same consistent open manner that those below them do.

I have been working at Air Products

    Pros

Flexibility is the only good thing which the company offers .You can broaden you skills and experience by working in different areas but it will be valued more outside the company.

    Cons

Poor leadership, senior managers are not leaders. Promotions are a drag. Lateral career progress and no vertical migration. Lack of careee opportunities especially in UK. Salary and job grade is based on if you have a option outside.Best way to get a grade increase is to get an offer from outside not through good work .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Motivate and engage your employees to increase productivity. Wake up its about time.

    Pros

Excellent culture supporting individuals and teams. Excellent life-work balance in a relaxed and professional environment. Good career development opportunities.

    Cons

I struggle to think of a real negative to post about this company, perhaps the coffee machine should have been free?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work, especially the excellent culture. It is refreshing to be a part of an international company that still cares about the individual.

I have been working at Air Products full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Good, engaged and professional people.

    Cons

Dis-functional culture torn between central absolutism and demanded local ownership (iasked to be "entrepreneurs" without being authorized to make any decision outside of extraneous procedures).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out of the Jones-Huck-McGlade "tunnel", get your act together on what you want this company to be (Chemicals ? no chemicals ? Homecare ? no homecare ?) and stop changing your mind every other year.

I have been working at Air Products full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The people. The flexibility to working. Range of opportunity.

    Cons

AP used to look after their people but as markets have been squeezed its more about the money and less about the people. AP no longer says its "the best company to work for".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look after your people and they will look after the company.
