Favorite job that should have turned into a career

Ground Operations Agent (Former Employee)
Moline, IL

I worked at AirTran Holdings full-time for more than 3 years

ProsCompany appreciates hard work, determination, and attention to detail.

ConsVery unpredictable future and job security.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay closer attention to market trends and customer needs. A lot of frequent travelers were often happy with your services, but would sometimes travel with other means if more cost effective. Also, revision of off peak revenue periods in the year and action towards those could have resulted in a most efficient operation, and could have been a better revenue generating stations.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

ProsI love the people that I work with. They are definitely flexible with scheduling.

ConsSometimes favoritism is too obvious.

Advice to Senior ManagementRespecting the people that work for you. Some leaders forget it was not very long ago when they were in our shoes performing work to the best of their ability and sometimes lacking some support needed.

ProsPlenty of room for advancement.
The benefits of working for an airline helps when you want to have a cheap vacation. It helps with air and hotel costs.

ConsThe salary is mediocre.
When you are due your review they kind of procrastinate when it comes to completing them.

Advice to Senior ManagementIn my department the communication is excellent, but from what I hear in other the department the management do not communicate with the employees at all. People skills needs to be re-evaluated when they hire some of these managers.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at AirTran Holdings

ProsSalary, Reputation and Southwest purchase. The company is stable and will provide enough money to live comfortably in the area.

ConsMilwaukee is a very small base and the majority of the flights are red eye flights instead of day trips.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure you give a pat on the back when someone does a good job. It means a lot to the employees.
