Cheyenne, WY

Former Employee – worked at Airgas full-time for more than 3 years

ProsPay & health insurance was good

ConsPoor management at this loacation. we went from 40 hrs a week to 32 and was told if we dont like it we could quit and they would find someone else to do the job.Problems with equipment often over looked and ignored making for a bad day. Acting plant manager doesn't have a clue how to run a plant... No clue to what the senior management was thinking when they put Bart in charge

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

ProsReally good benefits, including lots of health insurance options. Extensive training, you are constantly taking new training classes. Very generous with catered lunches, office supplies and little perks. Good discounts for employees thru various retailers.

ConsThe credit department at this place is a joke. The "managers" are so inexperienced that it's painful just to listen to them try to speak about things that should be common knowledge to someone who's entry level. There is no communication in this department unless they are being catty by talking about other people in the department. Professionalism is non-existent, no one knows how to carry themselves in a corporate environment; it all a bunch of poorly dressed, unpolished, under qualified peons trying to micromanage people who have a higher skill set than they could ever hope to have. They set up conference calls to ask you to discuss accounts that you don't even handle, just proving the poor planning on their part. There is no room for growth, you can apply for other positions and you don't even get the common courtesy of an interview. You have "incentives" in this department and if you meet your goal they are supposed to pay you for it, but they don't. Every time you make your goal you have to keep begging for it while they keep telling you, "It will be on your next check," while blaming others in management. This department has had so many employees go to HR that they sent out a survey for the people to rate their superiors. No need to say how that survey went.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou should have management applicants take IQ tests and test their knowledge in this field before you promote. Communication is key, if people aren't communicating with each other than everyone is doing double the work. Employees should feel comfortable going to upper management if they are having a problem, there is no open door policy. Paying people the money they are promised in a timely manor would go a long way in boosting morale.

Current Employee – been working at Airgas

ProsCompetitive Pay
Great hours
Paid Holidays
OK benefits

ConsMost people in management are only in that position either because they know someone, or they were in management with a company that was previously bought out. If you've been with the company longer, you're automatically seniority, versus those that actually know what they're doing. Nothing is confidential, management tells everyone's personal problems, including reasons why someone was terminated. They talk about you behind your back, smile in your face. Code of Ethics/Conflict of Interest is constantly broken. New employees are started out with higher pay than those that have been with the company for years.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagers should be hired based on their knowledge, not how long they've been in the business.

Independence, OH

Former Employee – worked at Airgas

ProsGrowing company, many job openings

ConsPoor Management and very low pay compared to the average salaries for this same type of position in ohio and nationwide. Management not fully aware of what is going on and just trying to get by day to day. You are not treated with respect or given feedback for a job well done.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay people for what they are worth and stop trying to say money when hiring people to make yourself look good.

Independence, OH

Current Employee – been working at Airgas

ProsThe company offers average benefits with above average salaries. Compared to other industries, the pay is higher than one would expect.

ConsThey commend themselves on customer service and communication within the company. The reality is customer service is always secondary. They will communicate with the associates on important matters but the communication lacks pertinent information.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt appears their is a lack of respect and trust of the upper management in all divisions. The negative culture among all companies needs to be changed for this company to move forward

Prosgood contests, good pay at upper level sales and the benefits are decent if you go single hmo. Lot of training on product.

ConsOld outdated rating system for performance. Top of the heap one day and fired the next. VP of this location is is standoff and unapproachable. Out of touch with what all the changes have done to accomplishing goals.

Advice to Senior ManagementRevise performance requirements to match the current computer system and all the downfalls that has brought with it. Cancel plans for total access and go back to what made you top of the competition

Current Employee – been working at Airgas full-time for more than 10 years

ProsFinancials of the company are solid and you don't have to worry about going out of business. Overall benefits are above average but expensive. Opportunity to grow professionally but must work on own time.

ConsNo raises to keep up with inflation. Always trying to drive more money to the bottom line, even at the expense of the employee and the customer. No support from all levels of management. A lot of lip service from the top but not much to show. Always wanting more sales but unable to put the money where the mouth is. Can't sell from empty wagon.

Advice to Senior ManagementQuit changing the commission program to limit pay. Quit pushing paper around your desk to justify your existance. Work with your people and find out what they need in order to do a better job and then go get what they need. People in Radnor don't know what is needed at the branches to support customers, branch managers and sales people know. Don't dictate to them, listen to them and HELP.
I don't ever want to hear that we work for the stock holders of the company. We work for the customer. If we take care of the customer, the stock holder will be taken care of.
