Pros
- Relatively small production team means every individual is important
- Opportunities to broaden your skill set if you choose
- Lots of talent
- Friendly environment and staff
- Ping-pong, foosball, coffee, weekly donuts, bi-weekly beer & ice cream
Cons
- The studio's only shipped title so far was lackluster, at least in part due to internal mistakes
- The studio has yet to prove that it is capable of good game design
- Weak communication, though it shows signs of improvement
- Weak scheduling, though it shows signs of improvement
Advice to Senior Management
1) Have a clear vision for your game
2) Have a realistic plan to achieve that vision
3) Clearly communicate 1&2 to your team
4) Update your team regularly with any changes to 1&2
5) Don't underestimate what I mean by "clear." I mean both "specific" and "comprehensive"
Pros
The projects are amazing and in such a collaborative environment everyone has a sense of ownership. The people are great too.
Cons
Like at any game developer crunch time can be both long and intense.
Advice to Senior Management
You're doing good. You have our respect. We know you care about us - so I think you can a learn a bit from our first project and reduce the amount of crunch time we put ourselves through on the next.
