I worked at Akima full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good coworkers, friendly staff, exciting work

    Cons

Morale went downhill quickly while I was at Akima.
For months, people were trickling out, let go by an often unfriendly upper management, and nothing was really said.
Staff were often worked beyond capacity.
Several members of my department, myself included, chose the job based on the flexibility--we could almost exclusively telework if we chose to, and we were very autonomous. Those who had the discipline to do this were very successful. Then the Director of our department was very suddenly let go, and the new boss wanted more control and demanded everyone drive into the office--some staff lived 2-3 hours away!

When budgets got tight during sequestration, things were pretty desperate. We were all fighting for work and to look busy, but all but maybe 2-3 people in a 10 person department have been fired or left in the past 1.5 years.

I have been working at Akima full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

There is great health insurance with BCBS. There is yearly recognition with cake/certificates. I loved the education budget.

    Cons

Akima/SAVA doesn't look out for its employees and expect not to get a good salary. Bonuses and pay raises may not be given one year and instead, handed to another part of the company. There is hardly ever a time that questions get answered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to give a nice reward to employees such as a quarterly lunch or the day after Thanksgiving off.

I have been working at Akima full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It has been a great place to work. People are friendly and welling to help new people to get settled in to their positions and start contributing to the team. Supervisors take care of their employees.

    Cons

Acquiring new tools that tools would improve work quality are difficult to obtain. Management does not always want to add new process even if the costs are resonable

I have been working at Akima full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great coworkers. Management respects the idea of work/life balance and works to make sure you have the support and tools you need to do your job. Management is approachable and treats employees like equals. Good salary and benefits.

    Cons

Sometimes things can move slowly as they are run up the chain of command or when you need to work with a half dozen people. Sometimes they don't. Nothing glaring or atypical, pretty much what you would expect from a large company.

Temperature in the office can vary quite a bit day to day (sounds nit-picky but, seriously, there are noticeable swings).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We know the federal contracting market is tough and getting tougher, but keeping the entire team informed and on the same page helps with both realizing goals and keeping morale high.

    Pros

Benefits are okay. Good people to work with that care about what they do.

    Cons

As the company downsizes, employees are given the job responsibilities of 2-3. High expectations with lack of executive support.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
