    I worked at Akorn

    Pros

Medical/dental benefits were good. That's it.

    Cons

Hire all sales reps in at same salary regardless of experience and age. Reps never meet quotas as most drugs unavailable or manufacturer shortage. UM picks a few drugs from an entire catalog and says this is what you are bonused on. My first quarterly bonus was less than a biweekly paycheck and I'm a very experienced sales rep. They make you front ALL your expenses out of pocket. Parking, tolls, HOTELS, RENTAL CARS, even hotels at training which is by far the worst and lowest treatment I've ever received in a company period, let alone a pharmaceutical company. They are very cheap and constantly altering bonus. No incentIves here, no awards, no trips, no company car, no expense account. Zero ability to move up as 2 managers run the country only. You will stay as an entry level rep forever and work with kids fresh out of college with no outside sales or medical sales experience. Managers are useless, unfriendly, cold, don't take time to know their employees or socialize other than in a business, micromanaging style. No sense of team. Nobody is helpful or friendly to new hires. Everyone here is unhappy and seeking better jobs. Constant field turnover at alarming rates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You will never keep sales reps unless you pay them well and pay their business expenses. Sales reps don't work large multistate territories for free. Open up new positions for district managers. If you see 4-5 reps quit in a year perhaps you should replace the managers or create new openings. Sales drives business, if you treat them poorly you have no business.

I have been working at Akorn full-time

    Pros

If you get in with the right people, they really do care about your well-being and growth at the company

    Cons

Management does not care about the "little guys". When the office closes, you have to take a PTO day. Management only does what is best for them. Sales team is always disappointed in corporate office and doesn't get pay when they should

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate, communicate, communication. Communication is KEY.

I have been working at Akorn full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Not micro managed, but when you, your team or manager is the target, it becomes personal.

    Cons

Weak HR department, which does not translate current employee issues well to management. Time off policy "if we close for a day day to weather, you need to use a PTO" Silo's of "authority" are being created. Customers are not receiving great customer service.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate culture is aggressive, and time off/WFH is frowned upon. Field Sales Compensation is horrible. "Key product categories" cannot be reached 50% of the time, due to drug inventory and drug use/expense. Akorn is ready to move past the old core products to new, bigger markets and not take sales persons with. They should sell off the Ophthalmic Rx line considering they "removed" from market 5 key drugs for Optometrists/Retinal Specialists.
