Pros
Progressive and fast growing, very ambitious in it's growth targets. Encourages and supports the employees to grow and expand their professional capacity. Very supportive of the national initiatives and has a great social agenda.
Cons
Right now it is growing rapidly because of which there are instances of not being able to do justice to some of the employees in assessing and rewarding performance. However this is not by intent and the company remedies such situations when approached by those affected.
Advice to Senior Management
It would be great if the higher management listens more closely to those on the ground and put effort to retain talent. There is a lot of improvement in this area since there is needless attrition because of feelings of frustration by some.
Pros
-Equality between employees.
-Challenging tasks.
-It's a growing company.
-Good salary package and benefits.
Cons
-Recently I started feeling some difference in dealing with Suadis and expatriates.
-Some departments are not well-organized.
Advice to Senior Management
Elm business is growing, but he number of current employees need to doubled in order to meet deadlines and deliver accepted quality.
So much pressure, don't get mega projects before making sure that you have enough resources for that project, it's affecting ELM's image, sometimes you need to work on multiple huge projects simultaneously within short time and you are expected to deliver the same quality for all projects, which is not possible !
Pros
Emerging Company.
Fairness to Employees.
Enlightened Management.
Cons
Although systematic employee evaluations are performed, promotions are more often than not are based on personal relationships and not on merit. Although performance levels are generally acknowledged, an employee can not only get away with inferior performance, but can even be promoted in spite of it if is "liked" by his boss.
Advice to Senior Management
Act fast to enfororce company high-end claims of fairness and objectivity and strategic objectives to middle management. A lot of redundant work being done by depts/individuals because of lack of inter-company communication about the responsiblities and actual work being done.
Pros
The company offers a very friendly environment and by and large shows trust in its people. There is a very healthy environment that makes it possible to balance both personal and work life. Being an I.T company, one is surprised that the general stress levels are very low at the workplace.
The impression is that the pay is reasonable but it is felt that it is below industry average. This is an unverified feeling that is based on the whispers on the grapevine.
Cons
There is a definite preference to the Saudi nationals, but that is mainly a result of Al-Elm following certain regulations from the Saudi government. The work culture is not at all affected by this and the expats are also treated with courtesy and respect.
However, it is felt that the career options and promotions are available to the nationals and the Arabic speaking populace and the rest of the expats are passed by for promotions and recognition.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve the pay packages and make the yearly benefits reach the recipient on time. Trust your people to make right decisions and support their recovery when they stumble.
It is a very good place to work for - these suggestions are to make it better.
