I worked at Albert Einstein Healthcare Network part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Nice, friendly coworkers
    Freedom to plan group activities
    Never a dull day
Satisfaction of seeing patients' mental health improve over time
    Flexible supervisor

    Cons

There are only two units - adults and geriatrics. This made planning groups that were inclusive and accessible to all patients difficult.
Some patients lack boundaries and are sexually inappropriate. This position requires a lot of compassion and understanding to avoid frustration and burnout.

I worked at Albert Einstein Healthcare Network full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Generous tuition assistance which is great if you need academic credits to move up in your field. If you are not on a career ladder then tuition assistance is of no benefit. Medical benefits are superior IF you use Einstein's doctors and facilities and IF they have doctors and facilities for your particular medical needs.

    Cons

There are so many processes and procedures in place it's difficult to get anything done. They are consistently understaffed, turnover is high, morale is low and people are always afraid of being laid off - with good reason! Things will get worse before they get better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop forcing people to drink the Kool Aid. Enough with all the employee surveys. The problems are obvious. With few exceptions managers are not supporting staff, people feel undervalued and overworked and conditions are ripe for the unions to come in and force the changes management does not have the will or willingness to undertake.

    Pros

Very flexible hours and understanding of school commitments. Allows for student nursing experience all over the hospital. Great pay for a extern position. They allow you to extend your contract if you do not find a nursing job right after graduation.

    Cons

Some people did not like always being moved from unit to unit around the hospital.

I worked at Albert Einstein Healthcare Network full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The benefits were impressive at one point in time, but Einstein is slowly but surely going bankrupt these days. Those once impressive benefits have been subject to cutbacks.

    Cons

Einstein is a union-less for-profit organization. They do not care about their employees, especially in the Protective Services department. The management discriminates on the basis of gender (They do not hire female officers). You are EXTREMELY over worked and under paid. You think you're signing up for security but you're actually signing up to be: a receptionist, a pathologist (removing bodies from the morgue), a mechanic, escort, RN, environmental services, etc...You are the "Jack of all trades," yet the lowest position on the totem pole. Despite all security does, you are treated as if you're a contractor rather than a hospital employee. You will never get time off or even breaks because they are extremely understaffed and unwilling to hire except for per diem positions. Also, there is no room for advancement (the politics are ridiculous). I fortunately resigned after two years, but others aren't so luck these days; beware of the layoffs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This organization needs a complete makeover, I cannot begin to explain how negative my experience has been. Particular management exhibits arrogant, prejudiced, immoral, impractical, patronizing, and most of all deceiving behavior. Next, work of improving the quality of the hospital in general. The non existent customer service at Einstein needs improvement and please cutback on the invasion of employee privacy.

I have been working at Albert Einstein Healthcare Network as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

You're always out in the field experiencing new things. You meet plenty of people and learn about new things at a rapid pace. The people are friendly and the ones who aren't always make for a great story. In addition, your 8 hour day goes by fast about 80 percent of the time. If you want to get your foot in the door it is the perfect place for it. Little to no micro managing(gift and a curse).

    Cons

Sometimes it seems like you are never going to get a permanent job. Management is very down to earth and friendly/approachable, but i would like for them to be more serious when its time to be. Full- Time pay is a huge gap from intern pay, and you are doing the same work if not more work, leaning towards the latter. Co workers are great, but sometimes they can never answer questions they should know, everybody isn't a genius, but when you are at a job for 10+ years you should know better. It also seems like a lot of people are scared to lose their job, so they withhold information from you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more serious with your employees when the time calls
Make full-time employees do more work to join the select few that work very hard everyday.
Talk to your superiors about hiring more inside and more frequently, there is more than enough work to go around.
Start assigning projects to keep the lazy workers busy so they wont be bored.
