    Pros

Opportunity to learn and advance. Recognition of skills.

    Cons

Inherently, a political organization and the public visibility of decisions can override what may be the best business decision

    Pros

Not alot of pros, really bad environment, bad cycle of short staff and layoffs, lots of politics, payscale is ok for my classification I suppose

    Cons

See above, mostly cons with this employer, lots of bickering and infighting, lots of nickel and diming, if you go above and beyond and do some OT, prepare to spend 5 hours arguing for every 10 mins of OT

    Advice to Management

Stop laying people off, stop budget nickel and diming, return to patient care, stop allowing political people to make health care decisions

    Pros

High salary, good benefits for out of scope staff

    Cons

I am being paid to do admin support work or have nothing to do while everyone runs around patting themself on the back talking about what a great job they are doing. All they do is go to courses or do team building, no work that helps patients You only get promoted if you are a suck up or have a best buddy in GOA or executive Treat staff like children, micromanagement Nothing valuable ever gets implemented due to the number of egos involved trying to make themselves sound intelligent and one up each other Nothing gets implemented, you just generate useless documents

    Advice to Management

Get rid of half the OOS people and do some value added work. Focus on what is important to the taxpayers of Alberta who foot your bills, not what is important to the Health Minister of the week Nobody cares who you are buddy's with at the government. Develop some actual character and earn your position instead of being appointed by your pals when you don't do your job

    Pros

Learned many things and found helping clients to be very rewarding.

    Cons

Alberta Health Services is provincially funded and is subject to tight fiscal constraints limiting hiring, new equipment, etc.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice to Management as they are acting responsibly by adhering to their budget guidelines.

    Pros

Huge organization with lots of internal opportunities. Great benefits and fair vacation time.

    Cons

With a huge organization comes lots of inefficiencies (takes a long time for changes to be put in place). Salary lower than similar jobs in other organizations.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

    - Good pay - Good benefits - Job security

    Cons

    - Horrible management on several levels. - Local manager was brought in to make sweeping changes and essentially ruin any job satisfaction that employees may have had in our department. - New provincial processes are slow and inefficient. Many teams simply ignore issues presented to them. - Current on-call generates approx. 4 calls after work on weekdays and about 5-12 on weekends. -They keep talking about work/life balance however if you're on call, there is little life to be had.

    Advice to Management

    - Pay attention to what happens at an operational level. Know what the employees ACTUALLY DOING THE WORK are going through and have to deal with on a day to day basis. - focus on making processes more efficient and timely. - Hire more employees if you need to. essential employees need to be treated as such.
