I have been working at Alberta Health Services full-time

    Pros

Pension, mediocre benefits, job security, co-workers are wonderful, vacation is also a huge plus, flexibility depending on where / what you are doing with AHS.

    Cons

Huge working environment, don't expect to be shown much overall respect, lack of employee recognition, no team building, lack of training, frustrating environment at times, pay checks are also frustrating - apparently making $52000/year really means making $40000/year when you add everything together - union dues, parking, benefits, pension, etc.

    Advice to Management

AHS is such a huge company, and it feels that way which can be frustrating.

I have been working at Alberta Health Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good wage, good benefits . The job is a passion & it can be very rewarding. I would recommend this career.

    Cons

No help with workplace harassment or personality conflicts. The morale is low. It's all about who you know not how skilled you are.

    Advice to Management

When an employee asks for help, take them seriously!

I worked at Alberta Health Services full-time

    Pros

If you think of yourself as one who cares about the well-being of others, the teams at AHS are always willing to help.

    Cons

If you weren't ready for the long hours of a hospital, a few shifts would show how much you could be on your feet in a day.

    Advice to Management

I would advise management to show themselves more often, to allow for open discussions regarding any matter.

I have been working at Alberta Health Services full-time

    Pros

Healthcare, dental benefits. The vacation payout and scheduling is good. The hiring process was fairly good. The job itself is very active- walking around everywhere. Not too difficult but can be exhausting

    Cons

Management can be difficult to work with. Sometimes understaffed. If you don't pick up. A shift they will not bother calling u in the future. Sometimes vacation requests are rejected.

    Advice to Management

You can't really fix everything and I would say the management is typically very good. I would try to improve on workshops or courses offered to employees. Easier vacation time. Health and benefits are good as well.
