Cons
P & G hires are a cancer
too much focus on self, not the team
Advice to Senior Management
Realize that company success in not based solely on yourself. The employees and brands may have contributed.
Pros
Great people. Strong brands. Decent benefits. Mid level through director level management very competent. Was able to compete and win against companies that were much bigger.
Cons
The senior level executive management was incompetent. Putting a state of the art manufacturing facility in Jonesboro was a crucial mistake. Noxxema acquisition was a glaring error. Pay could have been better.
Advice to Senior Management
Enjoy your golden parachutes..
Pros
Benefits are really good for the size of the company, flexibility to work from home if necessary, time off policy is very generous.
Cons
Recently aquired by Unilever. All the small company values they used to have pretty much went out the window with the aquisition.
Pros
Alberto Culver has many smart, friendly people who work hard. The leadership team is excellent, and communicates well. Employees are treated with respect.
Cons
Our company was recently acquired by a larger company. Because of this, we are uncertain about our future at this time.
Advice to Senior Management
I have the utmost respect for the management team at AC, as they've done a wonderful job guiding the company of 56 years to a profitable sale.
Pros
Great, supportive group of people to work with, they're like family.
Promote a good work / life balance (but that can be on a per department basis.)
Opportunities to work across a broad range of consumer goods and see your accomplishments on shelf.
They have a fantastic indoor gym with classes and trainers available.
Cons
Too much focus on filling the pipeline and not enough focus on resource constraints.
Creating an innovation department but offering limited resources to support their projects.
Conflicts will sometimes result in finger pointing.
Advice to Senior Management
Deliver sound business decisions over personal polital agendas.
Pros
Small enough to have impact
Cons
Limited Advancement opportunities for job growth
Advice to Senior Management
Listen
Pros
People are the best thing
plenty of change, keep my job interesting.
Cons
Unilver has just purchased AC
Pros
There are a lot of great people at Alberto Culver. Work/life balance is usually decent. It's a fast paced environment. Employees are generally empowered to make and act on decisions
Cons
Has become much more political over the last 2 years. Sometimes the most competent and productive people get overlooked, while the more connected people get recognized and/or promoted. Pay is ok, but not spectacular by any means.
Basically, AC will take from you as much as you are willing to give, but will only give back just enough to keep you from leaving.
The company has recently been acquired by Unilever. If you are looking for a long term position, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
