Pros
Good pay and benefits. Union job so payed union scale. 2% quarterly bonus for some dept heads which worked pretty good for me.
Cons
The labor situation is pretty dire.It seemed like if you did a good job with labor they would cut it down for the next quarter.
Advice to Senior Management
You need to give your dept heads more labor so that they don't have to work off the clock. The stores would benefit having more help so that your departments would be in better shape.
Pros
Hours and money, I guess. I have never really had a problem with that. You meet a lot of people.
Cons
Very frustrating, complaining customers all of the time. Some of your supervisors and upper management, have no idea how to handle or run things sometimes. Other times they are right on and helpful, but that doesn't happen often.
Advice to Senior Management
Get on the same page, and stop worry about your bonuses. Yes, it's good to achieve them, but at what cost? You throw everything else under the bus to hit your bonus!
Pros
Meet a lot of really smart individuals. When you work with someone who complements you, it is a really fun job.
Cons
Smart individuals move on rather quickly as pay is not that good.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote more from within.
Pros
Its not hard. You don't do much. Its really easy work days. You always have something to do on the job.
Cons
It was really boring working for Albertson's. You need to pick a location that gets business with people you want to see. I got a location full of elders.
Pros
I worked in a small town, most of the people were friendly. The medical, dental, and vision benefits were good. I liked that Albertsons was flexible with my school schedule. Some of the employee discounts are pretty good.
Cons
There is no growth opportunity, the union is not very helpful. The company does not care for it's employees. I worked with the company for almost 7 years and was a great employee. That didn't matter i was let go without a warning. I think the company is not doing so good economically. They seem to be cutting costs by letting go of employees with higher wages and employees who had recently gotten a promotion.
Advice to Senior Management
The hard work and loyalty of employees should be recognized and considered in any situation.
Pros
Flexible schedule, Strong leadership, and easy to communicate with management. Also, the work environment is very friendly. Training is long but thorough.
Cons
You are only allowed to work as a courtesy clerk until you are 18. So it is hard to move ahead if you start while in school.
Pros
Lunch breaks. 5% discount. Not much to say here.
Cons
They treat you terrible at Albertsons. Very little pay for what you do. The only reason they raised pay was because minimum wage rose.
Pros
The customers and the people from other departments and the opportunity to use conflict resolution skills and diplomacy.
Cons
This was a bad experience in customer service. I tried to do a good job under difficult circumstances.
Advice to Senior Management
You should have and atmosphere of encouragement instead of negativity. Instead of nagging at people during training you should adopt practices such as New Seasons use as your model for business. Employees love to work at New Seasons. People can't wait to get out of the store when they work at Albertsons because there is such a negative atmosphere there.
Pros
Salary and Benefits were very competitive
Cons
The company closed all but 2 stores in the market when it was sold. No opportunities.
Pros
It's easy, pay is comparable to other similar jobs, my location was very flexible with scheduling, and the management I worked with were all nice people and decent human beings.
Cons
Working for a grocery store is not glamorous or fashionable, the pay is pretty standard for the industry but it's still barely above minimum wage.
Advice to Senior Management
Those store visits where Corporate management swarms through the store, stressing everyone out and slowing everyone down? Those are terrible, your managers hate them because it stresses them out, your floor employees hate them because it stresses them out, and the visits actively impair our ability to give good customer service. This was especially a problem when I was in the Service Deli, and the corporate deli guy would drag my boss off in the middle of the lunch rush to criticize her ham placement or something equally pointless. Your managers can read, write them notes, don't drag them around by the ear for three hours while their jobs don't get done.
