I have been working at Albertsons part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Very easy to work around your schedule, reasonable pay increases, good people to work with for the most part.

    Cons

The company is getting very much cheaper, so I don't know how much longer it'll be a great place to work. They're making cuts in many places, such as no more 5 cent bag refunds, and no complimentary coffee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be so cheap, let the coupons double, bags be refunded, that's what keeps the customers coming, I'm top of our great customer service.

    I worked at Albertsons

    Pros

Big corporation allows for movement between stores.

    Cons

I just started working here and they were already having me open with just one other person at a very busy location. Pay was the same as everyone else in the store even though my department had the highest rate of turnover and the amount of work was much higher than all other departments.

I only worked here for three weeks. I was a full time student and I personally couldn't handle both at the same time. Other ladies in the department applauded my move saying that the job was horrible and they encouraged me to finish school so I wouldn't have to come back. I feel bad for them as they were older :(

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have at least three people working these busy departments when someone is new until they get the hang of it. You're asking way too much of someone who just finished basic training.

Better for students and younger, less financially committed folk...

I have been working at Albertsons full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good for a student/flexible schedule. Even with experience you'll probably still start out at whatever your area's minimum wage is. Raises are based on time in position. You have to accrue a certain amount of hours for each pay raise. Each department has its own top out rate.

    Cons

So if you jump around to other departments and are not paying attention to hours accrued toward your raise you can zero out your accrued hours. Forever moving the goal post away. Not necessarily the company's fault, but it happens. Generally full time is part time in most positions. Better for people who only want to work 20-30 hours. If you want 40 consistently, especially as your rate per hour rises, look toward moving into department management (not salary management), i.e.-- writing your schedule/giving yourself 40 hours of the hours allotted to your department) or be prepared to hustle for hours in other departments/store locations.

    Pros

Every store seems to present it's own family-like culture. There is a lot of opportunities for leadership growth at the store level for people with ambition and decent social skills.

    Cons

Hard to find a work/life balance with retail hours that change every week. You can also find yourself with some challenging coworkers, just like pretty much every other large retail operation.
