    Pros

Stable contract work. Outstanding expertise, professionalism and espirit de corp from all of my colleagues. Tremendous work ethic is en-grained in the culture.

    Cons

Had to permanently re-locate. Compensation was not quite in-line with industry standards.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you're doing. You guys never passed the buck and you absolutely controlled what you could control. I had a clear understanding of my role. My ability to advance and after a bit what my day-to-day objectives were.

    Pros

Large multinational that provides exposure to colleagues all around the world. Good opportunity to learn about global cultural differences.

    Cons

Company is too slow in reacting to changing markets. If you do not work in Europe, you are essentially a second-class employee. Be prepared for additional workload to be dumped on you when everyone in France goes on summer vacation (basically 4 weeks in July/August).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management takes forever to make a decision and often it is too late. Competitors are running circles around the company's product.

    Pros

If you work for ALU you will likely be exposed to cutting edge technology/products. Great company history and legacy.
Networking potential, tons of SME's - lots of smart and good people.
Compensation: Range is fair in most cases.
Benefits: Standard in industry, health insurance seemed better than average.
Perks: Tuition assistance program of up to 9K per year, ability to tele-commute (if you show you deserve it).
New CEO Michel Combes seems capable of really turning the company around.

    Cons

Company has struggled for the past 10 years leading to small bonuses, no salary increase or promotions, and lots of job cuts. Even the 401K (company match) did not survive.
Not a lot of young blood. The old people left are unwilling to change or step up, they lack competition from new hires for their job.
A lot of people are seating in the wrong seat of the bus. Too many unmotivated managers.
No proper mentorship or rotational program for young new hires. Very poorly assembled intern / co-op programs.
    Inefficient processes and de-centralized tools.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on growing LTE without adding more managers!! Weed out poor managers and hire more new college grads and establish assignment rotational programs to cross train them in the various critical areas needed in new product development.

    Pros

Decent basic benefits and good products/solutions.

    Cons

Constant layoff risk as the company struggles to restructure and become profitable. No salary increase over the last five years. Very few bonuses paid out over the last few years and when it is paid, only a fraction of the target bonus is paid to regular employees.
