Pros
Ability to try different roles, learn different skills, work with excellent people,
Cons
Company is still trying to get it's feet back on solid ground.
Pros
flexibility, autonomy and the ability to carve your own path provided that you have the support of your manager and his senior staff.
Cons
The fact that it can be difficult to move from one business unit to another one in a different division even if your skill set is a match
Advice to Senior Management
create a program where informal and formal mentorships can occur. this will help alleviate the issue of top talent leaving the company.
Pros
work from home or the office very flexible in how you manage your own time in most positions. Though you do need to get the job done and you will have plenty of responsibilities. Company has interesting history and is trying to rebuild itself with some excellent new products.
Cons
The core management is based in France so much of the promotions go to people in Europe. The French tend to want to double check and re-check stuff which slows down the speed with which things get accomplished. Also, there is way too many organizations here and sometimes you are not sure what org is responsible for what. Also this creates overlap of functions and again a slow down of getting things done.
Advice to Senior Management
Simplify the management structure. You could easily eliminate most VP's, senior directors, etc controlling their feifdoms and consolidate organizations down to some simple basics such as markeing, sales, R&D, IT, HR, etc. instead there are organizations layered over organization inside these main orgs that in many cases have so many overlapping functions. Everybody works so hard just trying to work through the various orgs that have their hands on any project. This adds time to complete the project, frustration to the employees (who are very motivated and sharp) and time to market and profits. In short, take a big hammer and flatten the organizations. Dont get rid of any worker bees just all the management layers. Also, end the IT outsourcing to HP. Not because they are a bad company but because they are another incredibly complex matrixed organization which then doubles the time of getting any project done.
Pros
Flexible work arrangements and opportunity to gain a global perspective and experience and help drive trends in a variety of highly visible markets and technologies.
Cons
Little room for advancement, over-dependence on a very small number of customers, especially in North America. Losing its competitive advantage and falling behind on innovation.
