Lots of deadwood in lower level managers and department heads, some engineers too.

I have been working at Alcatel-Lucent full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Work with some very smart and dedicated engineers who just love their work, and are willing to share their knowledge.

    Cons

There are managers and department heads in some areas who are way past their prime. All they are interested in is getting their paycheck and be left alone. They don't want to know or do anything about incompetence. All that an engineer has to say is, "I don't know" and the work will fall on someone else. You raise an issue and you own it. 80% of the work is done by 20% of the engineers, yet the bonus and pay raises are all even. My manager said, "that is the world is that way, 80/20". So, looking to move to another area where the "Technical Manager" is really technical, more like a project leader.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shuffle the managers and department heads. Upper management should come and meet with the lead engineers and find out what is working and what isn't. Have surprise visits and join group meetings to weed out poor management. After meeting with the lead engineers, go meet their immediate managers. If you find the managers are out of sync with the lead engineers, it is time for those managers to go. If not, those lead engineers will be gone soon and what you have left are worthless managers.

    I have been working at Alcatel-Lucent full-time

    Pros

If someone want to file their patents ,then doing research here is also beneficial as bell labs is the part of Alcatel-lucent.It is also good for some fresher who wants to prepare for higher studies in parallel with their job.

    Cons

you have to upgrade your skills and continuously work to improve to improve yourself.Working here makes you lazy if your approach is not right

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is fine, but feel like work should be distributed equally among employees.

I have been working at Alcatel-Lucent full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Very flexible work hours, good engineers to work with, good products overall, telecommuting available in many cases

    Cons

too many hours and too much out-of-hours work, not many opportunities for growth, no raises and minor bonuses in the last several years

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to keep up with the market, take care of your people as they are your biggest asset. Most employees feel the company does not treat them well and is more concerned with taking more away than providing for a good work environment.

I have been working at Alcatel-Lucent full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

ALU objectives are in the best interest of the business and it's customers. ALU is hard pressed to satisfy and rebuild it's reputation as a leading communications company. In doing so very flexible in supporting their employees hours and life outside of ALU with many opportunities to work onsite as well as remote. Happy employees makes productive employees.

    Cons

The unknown future of telco. Bonuses and raises are pretty obsolete.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the year end bonus and raises as a priority for continued employee motivation.

    Cons

I have been working at Alcatel-Lucent full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Absolutely no pros but there's a 20 word minimum. Actually, you get to work from home as a consolation.

    Cons

401k replaced with a far inferior savings plan. No longer able to roll over vacation time and not able to use all your vacation time. Salary increases are non-existent. Senior management continually talks about how the company is performing poorly and expect you to do more work, for the same pay and no potential for getting ahead. A large portion of the work force is legacy employees with old, outdated beliefs and ways of doing things. Too many managers and no potential to work your way up. Everyone "used" to be a manager and is next in line for the good positions. Office politics and favoritism is bad. Everyone is afraid of losing their job and places more focus on saving their job than doing what's right for the company. Major disconnects and application of plans by varying organizations within the same company. Company is so large nothing can be done quickly or efficiently. It's a colossal disaster.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Replace all the complacent lifers in top and middle management positions. Get rid of unproductive European organizations. Get rid of unprofitable legacy product lines. Get out of the real estate biz in unprofitable regions. Improve atmosphere.

    Pros

most of the people were really nice to work with

    Cons

they don't care about their employees, you are disposable even if you are a top employee. they get rid of top employees and get keep the ones with attitude and ones that complain about the amount of work they need to do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
