  1. Lots of squandered potential, but still a great experience.

I worked at Alelo TLT, LLC. full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The work was very interesting and challenging and the people were great to work with. The work felt pretty meaningful since we worked in the military language training space.

    Cons

A lot of management decisions didn't make sense; a lot of management overhead in general. Due to being a government contractor there was a lot of weird restrictions on things (free sodas not allowed) and time tracking was a bit onerous.

    Advice to Management

Get advice from technical staff throughout the contract bidding process. The technology has great commercial potential if only it was pursued. Games and language training could be great but things need to be more game like.

    Pros

Work-life balance is great. People are brilliant and giving and great to work with.

    Cons

Not very able to forecast when there will be work. Communication from management could be improved. The combination of these is scary for employees. Could pay better.

  3. OK place to work as long as the company actually has work

    Pros

Flexible hours, 9/80 schedule, every other Friday is off, friendly coworkers, typically there is cooperation between departments

    Cons

Inconsistent communication from management. For awhile we had regular company meetings, but during tough times, when we needed those meetings most, they were very scarce.

    Pros

Owners who never think they are above any of their employees. Emphasis on not just working, but also having a personal life. Flexibility regarding time off for personal pursuits and interests. Casual and relaxed working environment.

    Cons

Pay is not always competitive with other companies. At times it appears the wrong people earn more money than the people who deserve bigger salaries. More sick time and vacation time should be granted. No parking.

    Advice to Management

Start compensating people based on their effort and dedication, not just on their education or "paper" qualifications. It is not required to go above and beyond a job description and for those who do I think you should take that into consideration during salary negotiations, otherwise the employee will wonder why should he put in the extra effort.
